A friend told me to install it but knowing it works with a system similar to peer-to-peer applications I'm still dubious.
Do any of you has it?
Any thoughts about it?
It's less good for pc to telephone, especially pc to mobile, although still a very cheap option.

Rags, skype is indeed a peertopeer application.

There are two questionable downsides to skype that I know about. The question of "how much of a downside" is up to your own interpretation.
1. Your phone calls will be routed through other skype user's machines. Note: The packets are encrypted.
2. The skype system will use your computer/network to route other peoples calls. If you are on a fast connection I believe it will more readily use your connection.

I use the Skype out option as well. i paid ten dollars USD for my first credit limit. I calle from Japan to Germany for about once cent a minute USD. very dirt cheap...and that was PC to mobile with good reception.
PS. The new Skype 3.0 is much smoother improvement over the previous upgrade of 2.5

My sister came during the holidays and we installed here so I could try it out. It's pretty good. I couldn't get the long distance to work, maybe I was punching in the number wrong or something.
My sister said her friend always uses it for long distance and it's fine.
I heard it's free only till Jan 17 though. Is this true?
Another bonus is you can phone your own house if you only have one line. So if you are in the basement on your pc, you can phone upstairs (your house) without walking up the stairs....
