So,
Britain = Great Britain = (England + Wales + Scotland).
United Kingdom = United Kingdom of Great Britain = United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland = (Great Britain + Northern Ireland + miscellaneous smaller islands in the vicinity).
Is that about right, or did I miss a turn somewhere?
-Removed-I think the question you should be asking is what they did for you, in Scotland they had to build a wall from one end of the country to the other in order to protect themselves, we were never conquered like you pansies south of the border. What was the name of that city, yeah, Londinium i think.

Following this, in an attempt to quell sectarianism and force the removal of discriminatory laws (and to prevent the spread of French-style republicanism to Ireland), the government of the Kingdom of Great Britain pushed for the two kingdoms to be merged. The new state, formed in 1801, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, was governed from a single government and parliament based in London.

It was actually a serious attempt to put together a summary.
Probably the only "idiot" part was using more than five minutes on the project.

i hate quoting wiki but it was the first that popped up.
"The United Kingdom is often referred to by the short-form name of Britain. Great Britain refers only to England, Scotland and Wales, and, particularly in the UK, is not favoured as an alternative name for the United Kingdom"
now who's looking stupid?

Indeed, your quote says that Britain is not favoured as an alternative to UK, but you claimed earlier that Britain contains NI? What gives?
This appears to be a UK link with questions and answers about the UK, Great Britain, Britain, etc. I think they are saying something a little different than what I've seen in this thread so far.
example:
Is Great Britain the same as Britain?
Sometimes people use the shorten name Britain instead of Great Britain, to mean the same thing, but really Britain only refers to England and Wales.
