Hmm, so many anti-Royalist comments from those engaged in playing a game involving Kings and Queens!
The royal wedding doesn't mean anything to me personally, but I hope they have a good life together - just the same as I would wish for any two people getting married. This wedding is an event in the history of the British monarchy and that is how I view it. You don't have to be a Royalist to witness an historical moment. π
I speak from experience.π

After all, look at what happened to Diana.
Innocence lost, and all that followed.
I never did like Di much (she was a Sloane Ranger, ffs, how vapid can you get?), and she was hardly Charles's ideal woman. He should've been allowed to marry Mircalla... sorry, the horse, in then first place. "Unsuitable" she may have been, but she'd have made him a much better wife.
Kate, by contrast, seems clever enough to hold her own. Even more importantly, this is their own choice, both of theirs, not one imposed by the court. I expect they'll be much happier than his parents.
That said, I wish them the best, but the hullabaloo is rather over the top. Show the wedding live on TV, sure. Showing people getting over-excited about the wedding every single frecking day for two frecking weeks, on all channels? Get a grip...

-Removed-I personally think that it is a great occasion for the UK, they are high profile people and more deserving of the time and attention than the celebrities that are continually on our air-waves. Princes William and Harry (even with the much published errors) are a testiment to the Country, their parents and seem to be as 'normal' as they could possibly be, given their circumstances.
The charity work that they do, the work with the forces, the International Spokespeople that they are is superb, and with Peter and Zara also showing a lot of grit and determination this generation of Royals is a source of pride for the UK.
I am hoping that the tit that called the Royals scroungers is joking, the revenue that they generate for the Country through visitors coming to see their palaces, stately homes and the sense of history that they create more than compensates for the costs to the Country for their protection. Take the example of the early message where a great many of those queueing to see the Royal wedding have flags from the U.S. - they will have paid to get here, to stay in our hotels, to eat at our restaurants and drink at our pubs - how much revenue will this wedding raise?
I am excited by the wedding and will be watching it with my wife and two year old (she will be able, in the future, to say that she saw the Royal wedding - just as I can for Charles and Diana's), particularly as I get a day off for it! π
As for the lack of street parties - we are a totally different Country than we were in the 80's, the destruction of the neighbourhood (generally - rather than a specific place), the increase in Internet and Tele-media means that more people will watch it from home - raising a glass to toast their sucess.
And you wait until he 'knocks her up'! Then the media will go crazy.......

Diana was chosen strictly for her genes to make heirs. After she did her duty, she was kicked to the curb.
Charles has to be a bit of a nutjob for preferring Miss Cow-face, sorry Camilla, over Diana anyways.

I think he preferred her for her brains, not her face. I'm not sure how good Mircalla's conversation is, but it can hardly be as insipid as Diana's. And in any case, she and Charles seem to fit together, qua attitudes.

Originally posted by SuzianneIronic that. There is a totally unsubstantiated and maybe untrue rumour about the alleged father of William's brother Harry, which is not totally rebutted by the physical similarities of Harry to the one and dissimilarity to the other potential fathers.
