I would be interested to hear if anyone could recommend a solution to the age-old problem of toothache without having the dentist drill the living daylights off me? When giving examples and demos please site your own experience I don't wanna be a guinea pig.

Get someone to punch you in the mouth. Form an orderly queue, everyone!

EDIT: But seriously. You live in the UK so your chances of seeing a dentist this side of Christmas are next to none.

If it's an infection or an abcess that's under the gums, a good home remedy (temporary solution, obviously) is to brush your gums very roughly to open any sores than rinse your mouth with a shot of 1 part hydrogen peroxide and 1 part water every so often. It will help to disinfect the infection and provide temporary relief of pain. During University I used to have severe pains caused by impacted wisdom teeth. Eventually I developed infections around the area and the pain was excruciating for a long time. The H2O2 really helped during those unbearable moments.

I once had to knock my tooth out with an ice skate and a rock I found on the beach. The only reason I didn't go see a dentist was I was stranded on an island someplace in the Pacific.

If he had the right tools, my guess is yes.

Tie the mirror to a tree, or someplace where you don't need to hold it.

of course, because a bad craftsman blames his tools.
