I argue the opposite:

Less Pay ----> Only draws people in with extreme talent.

Kinda like politicians. Why give them a lot of money to do their jobs? Imagine how much better this country would run if a senator only made $60k a year.

Basically, what it comes down to is a ten cent disc for $20. I don't care how many "mouths" they have to feed, it is ridiculous. That's why piracy is so popular. CD's sell for as high as people are willing pay. If people would pay $100, that's what they would cost.

If that weren't enough, the last 4 tv show DVD sets that I've bought have changed their theme songs. They nickel and dime so much that Obla-Di-Obla-Da can't be on Life Goes On .. Lowrider can't be on George Lopez, You May Be Right I May Be Crazy isn't even on Dave's World. Would it really be a crime to sell some DVD's without paying for the freaking theme songs. I can turn on Nick At Nite and watch it the way it is supposed to be, but for $30 I have to make due without it.

It seems to me that DVD Piracy is becoming more encouraged. Why does every Cable Box now come with a DVD Burner. Do they really think that people are getting written permission from the networks before saving a show to disc?

Why pay $80+ for cable TV when I can download every possible HBO/Showtime/etc show on earth?

Piracy will help you do gooders because eventually cable companies, hollywood, music companies, etc will lower their prices.

Because of my diligent downloading. And millions upon millions of others.

We HELP you. Smile.

Let's take it to an extreme. Everyone file shares and no one buys any albums. Then a musicians ONLY income would be via performances (and advertising if they got famous). I think that people would be less inclined to try to make it as professional musicians. Fewer people --> less talent-->less quality.
Ok, fair enough.

Then again, the people who are making the most money in the music industry are among the least talented/inventive. I think over the past 10 years, we've seen some great new music come out, despite all the file sharing that's going on. I feel like I agree with your statement, but that it's flawed in some way. I'm not sure how.

Does it have to be so black and white?

Downloading music isn't really stealing. You're copying data.

It's not fair that the only "work" is that first theoretical CD. Then THEY DUPLICATE THEIR WORK FOR NOTHING, IN NO TIME AT ALL.

It's not like a carpenter who has to spend hours again making another chair.

The only argument that I will buy is "it is not stealing because I would not have bought it otherwise." However the fact that you are benefiting without compensating someone is stealing in my book.

Have you ever benefited from something without paying for it?

If I go a yard sale and see an old cd for $1, I have the "legal" variation. If I download it, it's "illegal".
Why? Because the powers that be say so.

I'm not saying I do it or condone it, but it does seem justified.

Yes. I have stolen outright in my life too. But I do my best to lead an honest life.

I'm no saint. Not trying to be high and mighty either, so sorry if I'm coming off that way.

Persumably, the original was purchased. He is just re-selling it at a low rate.

That's all I wanted to hear. At least you're honest about it MrHand.

People who download music have better musical tastes I have found.

That is because it ALLOWS them to refine exactly what is good for them, etc.

You can't possibly do that buying CDs. Unless you're a milionaire and don't care about the cost.

But for most middle class and under folks, piracy is the captain of those wild internet oceans.
