Not sure I really get that one, but then again we're probably not supposed to.
In the movie Music And Lyrics, Hugh Grant says: "Nothing can make you feel as good as fast as a good pop song. Slevie Wonder, The Beatles (...), those are the true poets." I think the guy has a point, although it doesn't necessarlily have to be a pop song, but good music in general often reaches a far higher level of poetry than "real" poetry because way more people really connect with the lyrics.
Best example I've found so far:
I can't believe the news today
I can't close my eyes and make it go away
Those who don't know where that's from should be embarrassed.
This is the last verse from Netherlands by Dan Fogelberg. I always found it to be extremely meaningful.
Once in a vision
I came on some woods
And stood at a fork in the road
My choices were clear
Yet I froze with the fear
Of not knowing which way to go
One road was simple
Acceptance of life
The other road offered sweet peace
When I made my decision
My vision became my release.

Nice, but I don't really get it. Probably mostly because the fact that it was called "Netherlands" distracts me a bit. I'm from there and cannot make out why the poem is called Netherlands.

I prefer to hear what the writer is saying first rather than be hooked by a catchy melody. Although, there are a few songs that speak drivel but stay in your head because they have a great beat or sound.
