It depends on the mentality of it's users I suppose. I certainly hope that we'll keep it up. That's half the fun, to exchange ideas and constantly improve the system. It's a natural thing after all to want to be noticed when you've done something original and useful, so I'm guessing that unless the differences are too trivial, we'll see new distro's come and go all the time.

I think GNU/Linux at the core will remain pretty much the same between distro's (as it is now), but the added features making for new distributions will hopefully continue to flow. 🙂

But the mainstream may very well go with one system in the end.
