Edit: If you ever get a hold of MotownDave, it might be worth asking him how long his tournaments go on average.
I play a bit of real life correspondence as well as on here. The time limit is somewhat different to what we are used to here, rather then having a certain limit for each move it tends to be something like 30 days for each 10 moves which speeds them up considerably as people dont really like to put themselves under pressure by slacking on their moves. The last time I played, both games were won by my opponents forgetting about the games and getting timed out.
Also, in this version they allow the use of computers so the game quality tends to be higher.
