When Britain was an Empire we were ruled by an Emperor
When Britain was a Kingdom we were ruled by a King
Now England is just a Country we are ruled by just Tony Blair

I see Scots and Welsh in a the same way as the French, good Europeans with a slightly socialist view on life.

I would like to see political autonomy within the EU. Give Scotland it's revenues, let Cardiff carry on its great leap forwards. Give the small nations independence and they will learn to fend for themselves.

Devolution has devalued the union.
give scotland its revenues, eh?

i think one of the results of scottish independence (and one of the reasons that's very unlikely to happen) is that scotland would pretty quickly find out it gets more than its revenues under the current constitutional settlement.

Not true, although i'd be happy for you to refute my post with fact.

Being on this site has shown me one thing that the English clearly are very good at: posting on this site. Not the quality of the posts, mind you; but for sheer quantity no one beats the English.

Only 4100 users fly the English flag, compared to 42,000 US flags. Despite that disparity in numbers, the English clog these forums with a plethora of foolish posts.

It seems like 3 or 4 out of every 5 posts come from one of our English users. (An even higher percentage if one only counts the lamest posts!) One begins to feel that they all live in a virtual fantasy world.

Of these; 30,000 can't find the forums duh!
And 11,950 of the rest avoid them because of their embarrassing fellow-countrymen. [eg, Red Blight]
Out of the remainder several are in the Silent Moronity clan - enuff said.

The other ones are ok. 😏

it's a perennial debate, and there's much written on both sides - reasonably balanced c4 summary at http://tinyurl.com/2wba6f.

i think ultimately the truth will only come out when there's a referendum in scotland (as i think there should be, and if i lived in scotland might choose to vote for the snp to help bring one about). assuming the debate leading up to that vote lifts itself above the level of the tfc general forum, some frank if complex cost-benefit calculations will start to appear, and my personal opinion is that scottish voters will realise not only what a logistical nightmare separation would be but also that they would not benefit economically.

Fair enough. I said that because of you're sports thread as well.
What's your problem with English posters?

They rip too easy when you try to take the pins out.
