Here, February 14th is "Barentainzu Dei", the day when all females buy chocolates for every male person that they know.
The men should reciprocate on "White Day", which is March 14th (but most don't...)
Not only did they mess up the pronunciation and the meaning, everyone hates it because (for the women) it's expensive, and (for the men) you get loads of horrible cheap crappy chocolates which you can't eat, so you have to give them to your wife/girlfriend/wench... who already bought and gave away a dozen or so boxes herself, and who then turns on you and says, "Who did you get all these from??!!!
The only winners are the chocolate makers and sellers.

Originally posted by NordlysGotta agree with Noodle-bot, something small and personal will make her heart skip a beat. But don't forget, it's all about romance! Women love little surprises, and they love the fact that you thought about them more than the gift itself (case in point, the Picaso version of a heart that Lady Houston loved so much).
Something only someone who knows her could come up with. Use your knowledge of her and your memories of your time together to come up with something. For example, a framed photo from a nice vacation you had together or a book about a place you went to would be a lot more personal than flowers.
I say start with a rose, but send it to her at work (surpirse!). Then pick her up, and either take her out for dinner to her favourite restaurant or make her something special yourself. Make sure you take care of all the little things she might otherwise have to do, like cleaning up at home, walking the dog, doing the shopping, etc... She shouldn't have to do anything except bask in your love. After dinner, bring her home and give her a little gift with some sentimental attachment (even if it's jewelery, give her a spiel about how you saw it and it reminded you of the time during your honeymoon when you saw her eyes sparkling in the moonlight...or whatever). Let her marvel at it while you give her a foot or back rub. And be prepared to get amorous afterwards (but don't ask for it!), so trim whatever needs to be trimmed (hair, nails, other hair as the case may be...), have some gum or a mint after dinner, and light some candles. BA-BAMM!! Good as gold.
