I have laptop that i use alot for the internet. When i buy it like 6 month ago it have mcafee installed in it trial version for 30days, but now it finish and when i try to upgrade i have to buy it from internet. I only have C drive didnt make any other drives when i get it so everything is on C drive. Now the problem is because mcafee is out of date and i cant scan the computer i download kasper, but now problem is i cant install it after i download it, it tell me you have to remove the other antivirus from the pc, i delete mcafee all of it after so much trouble but still it dont install kasper saying i have mcafee spamkiller and i have to delete it lol i dont even see mcafee spamkiller on the pc(maybe its the virus). Now i cant install kasper and i cant open c drive even when i right click and press open it dont work, i have to choose folders from the top and go in from there. SO what you think i do. format the laptop, anyone see this virus before? or there is other solution for this virus 😕
I dont want to format (because i heard it not good for laptop) if there is something i can do.

Even when i try to install kasper it tell me i have to remove mcafee spamkiller and take me to the add/remove in the control panel automatically but i dont see any mcafee word, mcafee firewall/virus scan etc was removed. But when i try to install kasper it says spamkiller is available and i dont see it when i go to add/remove programs.
did you go into the control panel, click open 'add/remove programs' and make sure there wasn't any mcafee software left on the list?

I had a similar problem to yours. There was an embedded file that I could only get removed through add/delete programs and wormwood indicated. When you initially deleted Mcafee, did you delete it from the add/delete forum, or did you delete it by clicking the icon and deleting? If you deleted by clicking the icon, the embedded file is still there. The easiest way to get to that file is to load Mcafee back on, then delete it from add/remove programs. It will recapture the embedded file. That is how they elimnated the problem on mine. Good luck to you.
Oh, a bit of advice for future that I found. I had Norton installed on my computer when I purchased it. When my first year subscription was about to run out, they emailed me an online offer to extend my subscription, which I did. Everything worked fine for the second year. As my second year was about to expire, again the email notice was sent to extend the service, but I had seen an ad in the newspaper for a sale at a store where I could buy the new Norton and with the discount and rebates, my net cost was Free. Too good an offer to pass, so I purchased it. I loaded the new software (assuming it would over-write and update my previous software and register my system. WRONG!!! While it did register the new software, the old software was sending meesages everyday stating my srevice was about to expire. I contacted Norton and they assured me I was registered, and no problem. Then, when the old subscription had expired, it locked Norton up and I was not able to scan and there was not virus checking going on. Nothing!. After 3 calls to Norton Technical support we finally got it straightened out. The sum of all of this is, if you end up purchasing new software, even by the same manufacturer, remove the old software through add/delete program first, and then load the new software.
Hope this was of some help to you.

Look for a program called "Update" or Updater or Live Update or something related to that. If you are going to remove a program thats critical to the computer you will be warned. So be careful.

I suggest that if nothing works and you still want the virus program to work, that you back up all your data and email files etc and reinstall Windows and all the application software using the CDs that came with the laptop. Thereafter you get the full version of McAfee before it expires.

Originally posted by LoletteIf type into Google, Mcafee removal, you will be able to get this removal tool which remove all traces of Mcafee on your computer. when this is done go to Avast.com and download there free virus protection, home edition. This should get you going again. The same thing applies if you cannot get norton completely removed from your computer, just tap in Norton removal and download the norton removal tool.

What I would suggest is:
Remove all McAfee stuff with their removal tool [link below] - then install [and update] a free Antivirus program. For example, the previously mentioned AVG. It has worked ok for me for years.

If you think you may have a virus already try a free online scan at TrendMicro.
