My fears about how this war could end can be summed up in two words: Berlin 1945 😞
(Ok not that bad, but you know what I mean)
As for after the war, there is no guarantee that divisions will ever be healed. Northern Cyprus was annexed by Turkey nearly 30 years ago and there are still peacekeeping forces there to stop hostilities flaring again.
I think that when I can, I will leave the US. I do not wish to be associated with the aggression that seems to be an inherent part of the American government (and many others, in fairness).
Incidentally, I stood in my first anti-war protest today, a small-scale local affair of about 30 people. It is amazing what simple-minded things were said to us by passerby.

The current doctrine, championed since the collapse of the USSR by people like Rumsfeld, seems to be: we're the only superpower, so we may as well start behaving like one. I would say US politics either has been or is in danger of being corrupted by power, as happens to all powerful countries eventually.

I pity those people who voted for Gore, only to see the Democrats get sidelined first by a dodgy election and then by Bush's jingoism after Sept 11. If the war in Iraq goes well (never mind about afterwards), then unfortunately we could be listening to Bushisms for a few years yet. Then maybe Jeb Bush could take over, and change the constitution to make presidency hereditary... 😞
well i think that US can use their power in many different ways they say they went to Iraq to destroy the weapons of mass destruction well tell me where are those weapons??? they say Saddam is a criminal and his people needs to be freed from him well for this matter i have 2 solutions it's either send some sniper to snipe him down or help his own people to fight against him...i think they came into Iraq wanting the Petrol coz numbers say that the Petrol in KSA is not gonna be sufficient after 25 years...but with this war for me Mr. Hussein is the hero of the day fighting fire with fire and words with words standing tall against mother military😠

I agree. But it isnt the business of the West to impose their will on everyone else.
Andrew🙄
Misslead-- what exactly are you talking about?
I deleted my own post, because it responded to an issue raised on page one of the thread, that had been resolved later on in the thread. For the record the issue was whether to call him "Saddam" or "Mr. Hussein."
No one used any sort of nasty tactics.
