I used to love watching bicycle flips on vert ramps.

More recently, another kind of visual-physical magic has appeared on my visiplate: the art of the airwalk.

The first time I saw it done (on a video) I thought it was a video trick -- but apparently this is something the kids have really come up with and can be done for real if one acquires the knack. Here's an example from the Shuffle Pack:

Yesterday I finally watched "Battle Royale" (2000/2001). Maybe not for everyone, but I found it worthwhile and engaging and even amusing at times. Not just a nihilistic splatterfest, but social commentary with sarcasm and some gentler moments of humor.

What kind of reminded me to watch "BR" was that the other night I took a chance on the live-action movie version of "City Hunter" (2024) -- which also has Masanobu Ando in the cast. That had some funny moments.

[Before "City Hunter" I had seen Masanobu Ando in three other movies -- "Smuggler", "Sukiyaki Western Django", and "Sadako vs Kayako" -- but when I watched "City Hunter" I wasn't sure which character he played (maybe because of the hair and makeup in those other roles), so had to look it up on IMDB.]

Well, so much for my Masanobu Ando mini-film-fest.

Hallelujah: Leonard Cohen, A Journey, A Song

This was a really well done documentary. I learned a lot of things.
