Suffice it to say that I acknowledge and to some degree respect people for their personal beliefs.

We don't place people under house arrest for aiming a telescope at Jupiter anymore.
Religious thought remains today a couple of centuries behind scientific thought.

That is a nonsense statement and entirely typical of those that have made science their God. Ask the God of science, 'Why the universe' and look it is absolutely bereft.

Science is about asking questions.
Religion is about pretending to have the answers.

Well, I guess it depends on how one defines "religion". If you think religion is some kind of system of worship of a Devine being, then I agree with you. It ain't worth doing.

Man thinks God needs him to do something for Him. That's religion. There's nothing we are capable of doing that can add anything to God.

I think a lot of people are afraid of the word "religion". It's just a word we use to describe something humans have been doing since we came down out of the trees. Words aren't "good" or "bad"... they're just descriptors. People like to hijack words and put their own spin on them. Just embrace them the way they are without trying to constantly "redefine" them or complain that someone else is trying to "redefine" them. They are what they are. Stop looking for "hidden meanings" or trying to turn them into "code" words.
