The reciprocal of something is purely the opposite. For maths it is simply the inverse - i.e. put on the bottom what was on the top and vice versa ( in a fraction )! Reciprocal of what one says is the direct opposite, quite of often referred to as rhetoric, when pricks say silly things they aim at others but, unintentionally, came from their own gobs! 😏

That is not entirely correct.

Reciprocal is not the same as inverse.

The reciprocal of y is 1/y , therefore the multiplication of a number and it's reciprocal is aways equal to 1.

The inverse of y is -y, therefore the addition of a number and it's inverse is always zero.

The reciprocal is the same as the multiplicative inverse. What you call the inverse is the additive inverse.

And multiplication and division are inverse functions, but I don't think that is what the original poster had in mind.
