Amazing! Your awesome, and Hand, your a disgrace, come on, give it a break buddy, you sound American, no offence. I am from Alberta as well
I'm proud I'm Canadian, but, disappointed at the same time. Our government disgusts me as they seem to be even more short sighted, small minded and petty than the Americans. We waste our opportunities over and over again. We blow off opportunities for schooling, business and social projects that people in other countries would sacrifice their lives for. We, meaning the US and Canada, should truly be world leaders. Canada in particular needs to immediately position itself as an economic force or forever be resigned to mediocity.
I may well be an @$$hole, so be it, but, I am saddened by what I see in Canada's future.
Vive la Canada.

ya know what Hand, maybe you're not such an a$$hole after all. We have a stupid government, yes, but it is better here than in Nigeria, Russia, Ukraine, and on the list goes. We have it pretty easy when it comes to our goevernment, and all we do is complain.
When was the last time our government eliminated our rights?
When was the last time our government declared war against public opinion?
When was the last time a fraud vote gave us a leader?
And we're worried about $$$$$$$$$$$$$
Maybe you are right, all we care about is dollars, cents, and ourselves.
But then why does Canada continue to be a leader in foreign aid? Why are we peacekeepers? Why did NAFTA rule against the states? Why are we considered one of the safest and best countries to live in? Why? Because we focused on the major things, not small details.
Think about it.

I don't think America is an @$$wipe country, just that neither country lives up to what it could be. And yes, I do think that Canada should. wisely, "exploite" our resources and minimize our dependance on foriegn oil, etc... I'm tired of seeing Canada sell raw material to other countries, just to buy it back as finished products. Especially with high unemployment. I'd star by immediately puruing offshore oil exploration.
Yes, I am a @$$hole and I am offended that you'd think otherwise. Seriously, your mistaken in your assertions that the Canadian government has not eliminated your rights (are you kidding me??!?) and fraudulently elected a leader (the electoral process in Canada is fundamentally baised and unfair). Declared war? With what? Our government, long ago, sold our ability to defend ourselves to the US out of fear (the Avro Arrow for example?). I strongly suggest that you look outside of the Canadian happy go lucky version of history that you might have been taught in school. You're government has taken and will continue to take your 'rights' and most people don't realize the gradual errosion when the look at. Freedom of speech particularly pisses me off, you're only free to speak if you're saying what's popularly considered true.
Like I said, I am, in all seriousness, proud to be a Canadian. I happen to live in the US and be married to a US citizen. Still, I'm Canadian (with British Citizenship as well). I've lived from coast to coast, tip to tail and love Canada and the US. BUT, the bullsh!t has got to stop. Both of our governments have to take control and do what's right, maybe unpopular, but right for our people.
F*k it... I'm moving to Brazil.
So I won't argue with you, just influence you perception. Believe what you want, that's your right. This is exactly the problem... it's time to argue, time to make a stand, time to pick a side mon ami.
Renewable resources are available and should be subsidized by our government. For example it is incredibly easy to build a solar powered heat pump for your water heater. I'm borderline retarded and I managed to do it. However, it isn't "code" and will have to be removed when I sell the place. I'm playing with a wind power kit to reduce my power bill, but, guess what, the homeowners association couldn't possibly let you put up an eyesore like that in your backyard. F' them, apparently the God damn wooden Pelicans in my neighbors yard are fine though. Easy things and could be made easier if the government gave people tax breaks for building this way. Legislate environmental friendly power generation you say? F' that! What would all the oil and car company lobbiests do for a job.
Soooo Angry!

Those, like you, who think that 1st world countries should be world leaders. Preserve resources, rights, and responsibilities.
Those who think that everything is find a dandy and we are ok
And those, like me, who think that to try and change the world and to perfect everything is useless.
Argue if you want, but i learned that you need enough support to even be noticed.
As for your landscaping problems, you can certainly do something about it, even i think that's a little overboard . . .

For all you Canadians saying America is the a$$hole of the world.
Go off somewhere and die please. Slowly and painfully.
To the question What is Canada Really like?
Well... my guess from reading the posts here would be: jeleaous.
All I really know about Canada is that they have 9 months of cold weather and 3 months of really slushy sledding and skating.

America is a military and economic superpower. Maybe if they shared that, the world would be better. Something similar to what Hand was saying, but not as strong.
Jeleaous? us? Says who? We want some money, some fairness, and some cooperation. We like Canada just fine the way it is. i'm only jeleaous because of your TV and movie industry . . .

More greed, lust and debauchery? Thanks but no thanks.
Edit:
Woke up to snow this morning. Late coming this year. Could mean trouble ahead.
I still like Canadian TV, Amerian TV, and British TV. 007 is out of England, America has Arnold Schwarzenegger. What do we have? I can't think of a famous movie star that is Canadian. Greed? Hardly.
It's just better. I assume the same applies to lipstick, would you buy something you've seen on a commercial or something you never heard of and don't know what to expect from it?
