It is really hard to know. If Jimi had lived you might be saying that about Hendrix. True, Page is a Master. But I don't like much of what he did before Zeppelin or after. Some of the stuff is OK but doesn't quake. Unless I have missed or forgotten about something.

Interesting that it is Page's name that keeps coming up as an argument agaisnt Hendrix. I would have though Clapton and Vaughn would come up more frequently. And no Eddie V fans?

Like I said before, all these other guys. Stevie ray, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani or any of the other great master guitarist are phenomenal. But at the time period. Hendrix was the man to copy. He copied no one. He was in a league of his own. A true pioneer. No one has pioneered a style and changed music as he did since. Unfortuatl ...[text shortened]... wish I could hear more, but it will never be. SRV. Yea man, he was close. But not close enough.
Linc Wray was one of the unsung guitar heros. Linc is said to have invented the power chord, and improvised distortion/fuzz back in the late 50's.Many have never hear of him,yet he was a rock a billy pioneer. Many metal and punk guitar players were inspired by him.

Absolutely. Perhaps you've heard his recordings with Robert Gordon?

I am a big fan of fifties music. I am glad you brought him up. Linc was a pioneer in his equipment and some of the sounds he came up with. Yet much of his stuff was only slightly unique from what was going on elsewhere in the time period. But I think that has more to do with the songs than with him. In my opinion he should have got much more recognition than he did. I am not sure why that was. One thing I can't figure out is why they say he was such an influence to punk rock. I see no similarities. He was much, much better than that.

Punk and rock a billy have some common basis.I guess that is the thought.(Also some of Linc's songs like "Jack the Ripper" and the surf stuff have a punk twist to them.)I think Linc was more of a metal pioneer with the power chords etc.(IMO)

I often do talk like this in real life, as some RHPers can attest. My lips have yet to be stapled to anything without my consent. Perhaps your view of real life is just skewed by too much online poker.

Well, if you were to give your consent I am sure it would be a stupid stunt that would get some laughs. If you are up for it, I'll bring the stapler and you can bring the camera. Forget about placing bets, we could just sell tickets. I would kind of like to see it actually.😵 If Nordlys would bring her cello we could even tuck that under your chin.

i have no idea why this is. and what about jeff beck? 'truth' is amazing, although i think it was after jimi's time.

eddie is awesome, another true pioneer. perhaps he is a bit like jimi-he started his *thing* (rock/shred respectively) but was (arguably) surpassed by his predecessors. but, at the time, each was the greatest.

EDIT: page had a problem with imaginative guitar bits. http://www.warr.org/zep.html#Thieves

Jimmy Page was a much better guitarist than Hendrix.
