Sober is how I enjoy chess. However, interesting things happen when I drink & chess, depending on the drink I'm having.

Beer = Great start. However, lousy play after a couple of drinks. Gotta pee every 15 minutes and concentration goes flying.

Tequila = Slow start. Pieces fall everytime I slam the shot on the table. After a couple of moves chess is forgotten. Start drulling.

Wine = Slow start. However, peripheral reasoning boosts for some 20 or 30 moves. Bad ending since I start thinking 'bout girls instead of chess.

Vodka = Great playing as long as its mixed with some juice. Go blind after some glasses though. Bad, bad attitude when loosing.

And so on. Wondering about any experience you may share on the topic.

Do you believe there is a particular drink for different types of rivals or situations?

A good single malt scotch.

To my surprise, I noticed I actually play better when drunk... I win against people I usually never win against 😛
Since I hardly play any OTB chess except in my school's chess club, I haven't played chess when drunk very often yet... but Bailey's seems to make me play a lot better, whereas vodka gives me a "I don't give a damn about friggin chess!"-attitude.
The hardly ever playing drunk OTB is about to change now though... I have found that there is exactly one (1) chess pub in Heidelberg... which a friend and I will visit wednesday night. Hope it's good 😀

When I get drunk, staring at the computer is very painful and makes me feel nauseous and go cross-eyed.

So my answer is none.

Despite my painfully low alcohol tolerance, experience shows that I can wipe the board with Freddie2006 after eight vodka tonics.

Amen.

When Scotch is American made, we call it Bourbon. The Bourbon Society recognizes the merits of both as stemming from values also linked to quality chess: quality over quantity, time and patience, fine wood and good fire.

I had 7/8 pints in that pub and still managed to beat Starrman in 15 moves 😛, but that may have been because he had had 7/8 as well 😲

And I could have sworn I won one game against you?

Oh, I forgot about scotch! Never tried chess with it.

Now I have plans for tonight. 😀

Thanks, dude!

Probably. In blocking out the memory of the tapas bar singer, I seem to have forgotten the rest of the meet-up as well 😛.

Yep. Older the better.

Bourbon is a close second.

Have to take exception to Wulebgr. Bourbon is not simply an American name for Scotch. Though both are members of the whiskey family, they are very different from one another.
