Anxiety attacks can be very debilitating, however, speaking as a lay person who has suffered from "anxiety" I can tell you from experience that the longer-term solution is cognitive therapy as the hormones are driven by thoughts. You've probably gone through long periods of constant stress.
tried therapy many times, its hard to explain what triggers an attack , the last one was a few years back a month or so after my mother past away , I was driving down the a19 when I knew something was wrong so I pulled into a lay bye and blew in a bag, that calmed me down long enough to get home, the only thing that fixes me fast is Valium.

Benzodiazepines can be prescribed for a variety of reasons. It depends on why you're taking it (or considering taking it). Probably best to speak to your GP about that.
    Ghost is spot on.
Additionally, the anxiolytics can be physically addictive. If used or abused at high dosages they can produce severe withdrawal symptoms, even exceeding those produced by opioids.
In recent decades, Valium (diazepam) has fallen from favor for this reason. These days, it and Librium (chlordiazepoxide), are almost exclusively prescribed to alleviate the delirium tremors which accompany severe alcohol withdrawal.

Currently, from what I've seen, Ativan (lorazepam) is the first choice preferred by most M.D.'s.

Mild beta-blockers can help if you know in advance that you are going into a stressful situation.

Good suggestion. I take metoprolol to aid in controlling my BP.
Pleasant side effects are, indeed, an alleviation of anxiety and stress.

However, beta blockers should never be discontinued abruptly. A severe increase (rebound) in blood pressure can be the result.

Lots of good (and well informed) advice in this thread.

Let's not forget to throw 'regular exercise' into the mix.

The exercise will certainly be helpful. It is good for the mind as well as the body.

Sorry to hear about your medical issues, not to be taken lightly.

Try and keep yourself stress free. I don't know if these forums are helping your issues any to be honest with you.

stress is a mind killer. Negating it retains more of the information.

Drugs and booze can help relax the mind ....
