I don't know about that, I"m not saying I can cause I suck. LOL But there is possibly one out of 40,000+ members that can beat or even draw a GM.

You are seeing false modesty. In truth chessplayers are an arrogant lot. Try criticizing the moves instead of complimenting them. Generally they will defend bad moves, especially if they were made enroute to a win.
haha, very true. I find myself arguing even against fritz quite a lot. 🙂 like in this Game 2827784 where I was 3-4 pawns down according to fritz almost the whole game.

I just have a tendency of making these crazy sacs when there's easy equality available... always stirring trouble, even if it puts me way behind.

I think you are just in a bitching mood. If they were arrogant you would bitch about that and if they are modest, they are two faced. What's up with that?
I think you're confusing me with yourself. And I think you mis-read my post. I said we're all two faced because we're sarcastic and rude in general, but modest and polite when it comes to chess.

Thanks for proving half of my point. 😛

We are all one bad move away from being stupid. That keeps most modest. 🙂

I've seen you responding quite many times "yeah but I'm probably overrated.." 🙂

I guess it's because no matter how good you get, you're still crap compared to some people. there's just no winning with chess, you'll suck no matter how much you work on it. chess is the most ungrateful hobby you can have.
This is the problem of all of us on this site. We are all playing to increase our strength. Our main hobby isn't chess, but rating graph. We are too hard on ourselves and it's easy to forget that chess is fantastic game even if we aren't grandmasters. Here you can always find a strong opponent, but don't forget that in real world people like you with 1800 rating are considered almost like chess goods belong the average folk. I think 50% of the people in western culture "know" how to play chess (And that means that they know the rules about pieces moving, excluding en passant, and that's it). Belong 100 randomly choosen people who "know" how to play chess there is maybe 10 players who would be rated about 1300 and 2 or 1 with 1800. RHP is chess addicts community, and many players constantly try to improve, so standards are obviously much higher here. We aren't THAT bad!

Firstly, I mean why are chess players so modest about chess? There is of course the rare exception (ie MerchantParkPro), but for the most part, whenever you tell a chess player that they're good or exceptional, they just shrug it off and say something like "Oh, I'm ok, I guess.".

Even the people here never admit to being good. They have no problem d ...[text shortened]... hat nice and humble?

You're all a bunch of two faces.

I'm off to bed. G'night.
Hey, I say I'm OK because at best, I'm OK. When I'm good, mark my words, I'll be sure to let people know.

I'm good at eating with chopsticks. I bet maybe the best in the world, no bull.

There's modesty for you!

No it was a joke. Tebb played brilliantly. 🙂
I don't want to take anything away from David's win over Kasparov, but 12.Nf5? What a horrible move!
