News publishers, and news shows think fat Rosie and anorexic Paris are such big news items?

I am so tired of their ilk. Fat Rosie and anorexic Paris that is. Well, and those cheap charlie news programs.

agree! The cult of celebrity is ridiculous. Their only merit is to keep whatever catastrophe there may be off the front page. But that's only because there isn't anything more horrible and newsworthy around - which in itself is a good thing.

This has to do with society not the news shows. The news shows are a business and businesses cater to what their customers want. The customers, in this case the viewing public, want to watch celebrities and their problems.

I think this is because it makes celebrities seem human and therefore the regular people can say to themselves: See! They are rich and famous and have the same problems I have or worse! I am not so bad off am I?

*edit* At least I hope thats it, otherwise it just says the public wants to see people self destruct on TV.

this is right ... the point of celebrity news-crap is that us humble fat and sedentary slobs can identify and live our fantasy lives through their mascara-ed and gut wrenching fallacies.

But why does everyone say that this is what the customers want, and yet I've not met anyone who said they like seeing this crap on the news? Where are all these people who want to see this? Can we get there addresses and have a little ... conversation with them?

I agree, I tune into the news for just that, the news. Leave the celebrity crap to Entertainment Tonight.

It is sick. I am sick of hearing about those two and the others as well.

The news stoped being news and became entertainment. To a certain extent they are each catering to an audience. I think on another level the entertainment industry is, like most industries, wrapped up so tightly in itself that it can't imagine there is another world out there with different interests.

Hollywood thinks it's the center of the universe. Why else would terrorists plan an attack on LA in every season of "24"?
