Is there anything good about it that you'd recommend?
But, seriously, DIRECTX10!!
Windows Vista has lots of namby pamby stuff that nobody will ever care about. What everyone cares about is DIRECTX10!! DIRECTX10!! DIRECTX10!! DIRECTX10!! DIRECTX10!! DIRECTX10!! DIRECTX10!! DIRECTX10!! DIRECTX10!! DIRECTX10!! DIRECTX10!! DIRECTX10!! DIRECTX10!! DIRECTX10!! DIRECTX10!! DIRECTX10!! DIRECTX10!! which you can ONLY get if you have freakin Windows Vista.
DIRECTX10 is the greatest revolution the gaming world has ever seen since Directx1 was coded by Microsoft. They've rewritten the WHOLE freakin thing and everybody has wet their panties waiting for the first proper directX10 games to be coded... once directx10 has been fully mastered by games designers, it's going to be freakin awesome. I have to go!

Originally posted by zebanoyeah, I know. I was just wondering if there was some specific disturbing changes or 'improvements'. there usually are, but I've found out that I've never really wanted to return back to old software after getting even slightly familiar with the new version. one exception is windows mediaplayer since 6.4, but the new wmp looked promising in that regard...
Some people just aren't able to deal with change...
Some people also like minimal interfaces which is why they often use linux and a bash/c/whatever shell.
That said, from my trials, I see little reason to upgrade if you have XP.
having an unix-based OS is like having an old cool car from the 50's. it's very nice, everything is simple and functional, and you can get under the hood and do whatever you like. but that also means you have to like tinkering. if you're not the type of person who likes to get dirty with shellscripts and arcane commandline magic, get a windows or a mac. if you want to be compatible with the software your 8 year old nephew wants to play on your machine, or the genealogy program your grandma wants, eg. the rest of the world, that leaves windows. it might have room for improvement (as all the other OSs as well), but it's compatible with the rest of the world. (regardless of what the apple's propaganda department has to say about it.)
this evening i saw bill gates on the daily show avec jon s. gates was looking and sounding quite a lot like kermit the frog, as usual, and he said that in the future, computers would be able to understand speech and tv would be more interactive. he refrained from detailing the toilet habits of bears or the religious affiliation of benedict xvi, but i suspect he's got a hunch about both. how this guy became arguably the world's most successful businessman ever is completely beyond me.

No, I think it would be closer to this:
"So what was bad about vistas?"
"Well, first and foremost, it just isn't Linux. Secondly, well, what do you expect? It's just Microsoft rubbish. Thirdly, Linux is much better. Also, it just can't be good, just look at XP. Did I mention that it's intrinsically bad because it isn't Linux?"
