Survey. White vs Black - Your score?

Large game databases show that all things being equal white should trump black about 54% of the time.

Do your results conform to that? Here's a forumla to calculate your %preference for white?

Score = 100* WS/(WS+BS)

where WS = (WW+WD/2)/WG and
BS = (BW+BD/2)/BG
BG, BW, BD are black games, wins and draws, and
WG, WW, WD are white games, wins and draws. You can get this info from the "Your performance" page on "My Home".

As an example, my score works out as:

Score = 100 * 0.8324/(0.8324+0.81768)
Score = 50.4%

Which compared to the 54% benchmark tells me that I play relatively better as black than white. It could mean my openings as white are weaker than they should be. It could mean my defences as black are stronger. I'd like to think its the latter.

What is your score? And what does it tell you about your game, if anything?

Hmmm somehow despite black against e4 being my most suspect opening (Dragon) I do better with the black pieces.

My quota is only 38,9% wins with white, this should place me at the extreme of the distribtion probably

53.4% which is not as squewed as I thought given my poor black performance vs e4

the new numbers:

WS=83,5/248=0,337
BS=155,5/353=0,441

Score= 43,3%, slightly nearer to average I admit.

If I could go back and compare to my record as of a year ago, I think it is getting "more even."

Forget formulas, just run a dossier on yourself in ChessBase:

Mine reveals


White: 10390 gamesWhite scores averagely ( 55% ).

Black: 12336 gamesBlack scores well ( 55% ).

The drawing quote is very low. (0% quick draws, < 20 Moves)

WS = (196 + 17 / 2) / (196 + 17 + 102) = 0.6492
BS = (195 + 20 / 2) / (195 + 20 + 106) = 0.6386

score = 50.4(1)

Except for very strong players I think when you are black you are compensated for white's initiative by being able to choose the defence. As black I can always play the Sicilian after 1.e4 but if I play 1. e4 as white black might do anything.
