The position when the board was spun towards the end of the vid.
Two Black squared Bishops - all 8 pawns on the board.
It then changes to this.
And with White in check Black plays Qd1 mate.
A pity but it should not distract from the animation which is brilliant.
That old boy reminds me when of me when I'm playing over a game.
I mumble and grumble and shout and moan.
"Who is Daddy talking to when he plays chess by himself?"
Used to be an often asked question by my kids.

Now that's entertainment!
Both MIT grads? I have a Theory! (You wanted entertainment.) The MIT Blackjack Team! (As seen in the film '21' which was out last year.) Except, it is the MIT Chess Team. A group of MIT people who have teamed up to play as Lex Rex, then K&P. They work as a consulting team. Explains the smoothness of his play. And then they have "spotters", as in the MIT Blackjack group. People to vouch for "him" and do research as well. A new approach to subvert RHP!
The blackjack team was formed to make money however. In the film the lead needs $300 K for tuition to Harvard Medical School. So, RHP is a trial run for the money in
ICCF chess! (Not the same $$ as Las Vegas, I'll grant you, but, geeks are strange people.)
The genius of K&P is evident. The site cannot "get" him, (or them), on any TOS deviance of impersonating a fictional character. It is not illegal so he can easily
shrug off an attack of that charge. He even stirred one up against him for this pretense by artfully sticking that photo on the profile and, (finally!) removing it
exactly at the most suspicious moment after someone finally found it on the net! The charge that he is also Lex Rex is, as far as I know, not provable by admin if 2
IP's are used, and 2 different individual's credit cards are used as well. That switch on May 15 may be deliberate as well to provoke the over-vigilant.
As long as the "statistics" of move correlation with engine use are not violated, he is free and clear. Yet, a very logical and effective game can be constructed by
a group of people w/o utilizing a machine. Thus, my conclusion is that this is a group effort. The group need not be physically together as long as their information network runs on schedule. The other personae may be part of the group actually playing, or not. I suspect not. The designated persona may even be occupied
by a PR type, not a chess player at all. He just gets fed the moves to play and converses with the public. Sort of like Reagan!
Harvard and MIT field decent college chess teams. Those who did not make the traveling squad may have decided to do this as a lark. But, geeks can be very determined and stubborn. Just remember that it is from their ranks that
the bureaucrats come who run our countries! The less intelligent become politicians.
Or physicians.
And, they CAN afford to do it, as the tuition costs demand well-to-do students, except for the athletes. Those are subsidized.
And, as USCF members, they would be aware of the amazing Erik Karklins, age 96, ELO 2057, from Illinois. Earned the NM title in 1992, at age 75. So, there's their
model!
I think that a small group, (such as depicted in The Social Network) could function well if they all started together in school. even if they're dispersed now. On a
site like RHP they all could pick up the new move when posted, e-mail their initial suggestions to each other, retort, and repeat as needed. It would explain the need
for longer time controls, which is covered by the guy's purported "old age". Also for covering absences of players who are doing their Peace Corps obligations in
Africa, as they may not always have wifi!

Dan's post in a Nutshell.
Clan America have created a null account called Kings and Pawns.
No box involved, they each select a move for each game and the move
that gets the most votes is played.
Forget their lowish grades, these they keep low to avoid suspicion.
The grandad profile was invented to give the 7 day time frame dredibility.
(they need 7 days to gather all the moves.)
The plan being to get Kings and Pawns to No.1 for a prank.
DerJager, much to annoyance of the clan, could contain himself no longer
and posted the progress of K & P.
I have exposed their diamond smuggling racket and now Dan has exposed
the scam of scams.

I don't buy that they made the mistakes on purpose. They might claim that now since they got outfoxed by a lad from a comprehensive school and a fat lady.
The charge that he is also Lex Rex is, as far as I know, not provable by admin if 2

Does it have to be provable ? I think the admins can do whatever they want including termination without reason.
That switch on May 15 may be deliberate as well to provoke the over-vigilant.
Provoke ? Who had more fun in this thread ? Who lost their rag ? Me ? GP ? Lex ? Alice ?
Thus, my conclusion is that this is a group effort.
That's a TOS violation right there.

If Clan America!!! have their finger on the red button we're all screwed.

I liked the MIT team idea the best!
But then, I'm a film buff.
Did anyone get the reference from the "Once More, with Feeling" episode of Buffy The Vampire Slayer?
This scenario, in Hollywood parlance, is '21' meets The Social Network.

The Hustler was the title I know. Was there a film called The Hustle?
Straw Dogs (Peckinpah, not the re-make!) would be appropriate, as that is what K&P is.
If he was a 78 year-old master, I think he would be known to me, as a 38 year member of the USCF, and to other old USCF players. Let him declare his true name, and we will see. No Stu's on the Illinois top 100 list for the USCF. Just Karklins and 2 others.
It's half time. So I can post. Steelers up 21-3, but, I've seen that before and still they lose.

Ocean64 is a strong player (he played for the US Virgin Islands In the Novi Said Olympiad, and went to Russia for a training school back before the Wall came down), and is a member of my local OTB club and a good friend, and I wouldn't want his name smudged on this.
He never looks at the forum, so he's probably oblivious to it all anyway!

The clan was started by Der Jager, apparently also a military guy, and was actively recruiting, so this group merely picked them up as a cover. An old con trick. Especially a clan so patriotic that they should not be questioned, as a certain clan whose name ends in 'a' and starts with the 13th are. Another useful trait for con men is believing what you are told, without questioning. The military trains people to do that.
Other than Der Jager, who was not blindly defending K&P, only James Claycomb and Alice came to his defense. I suspect Claycomb of being the obtuse academic who only wishes to snow you with his erudition. It seemed to read that way from his one post!
I'm not going to red anything from Alice's posts!
Steelers just gave up a TD and got one themselves. 38-17, over.
Originally posted by DanTriolaI have been following this thread with interest. Whatever may be imputed towards Kings and Pawns should not be projected onto the rest of the clan. Kings and Pawns requested membership maybe 2 months ago, don't remember exactly. So the clan has existed before him. I had decided to not state anything in these threads as it seemed pointless to me. I find it hard to understand the photo and the circumstances that surround it's removal. But until the site or more obvious information comes to light I still stand by my members. Also, I do not appreciate or statement about the military-we enable you to have the luxury of watching your football games. My point-we are a legit clan. Kings and Pawns and that has concerned me, but he is either really good at deception (we have spoken on here extensively) or he is who he says he is. It is not my or your place to decide that but the sites'. I give respect and expect the same. Personally, I have had enough of this thread-talk about Kings and Pawns if you must. But please do not bring me or any other members of the clan into this. It isn't mine or their issue. I am just curious about the veracity of Kings and Pawns, and you should be too. Sadly, you seen to enjoy slander more then anything.

Remember, I did not start this questioning of K&P. After following along the thread, as entertainment only, my imagination was stimulated to produce the scenario that I posted. I have not tried to demean anyone, just have some fun with the prior posts on the thread.
Unfortunately, Paul Leggett seemed to take this as an attack on your clan, and I wanted to make that clear that it was not. Looking at my last post, I can see how my writing is not exact and that you can take offense by reading it a certain way. I was stuck in my "theory" mode and did not try to paint your clan as patsies in fact. I was only extending the logic of con men to this hypothetical scenario: pick a clan that is above reproach, at least in the USA, and then put forth a story that they could believe.
My dad and my son-in-law were/are in the Navy, I spent a lot of my childhood at Annapolis, and you must admit that the common view of any military organization is that the personnel are taught not to question, within reason, their orders. Again, logically, a con would want a group that will more likely accept their story, especially when coming from "a sweet old man" (see removed photo), a trick Paul Newman tried in Butch Cassidy! (Without success in that film.)
The whole thing I posted is a story, and I am truly sorry that you took any offense by it. I had no intent to slander anyone, including the armed forces or your clan. I had thought to make that clear, but I see that my third post did not. (I was rushed by the football, that's true!)
Will make no more posts on the subject. Seems every time I do on the RHP forum, it p*sses someone off. Must be me.
