I hope the contents have been useful and so far I have failed to break through that 2000 barrier although I got up to 1956 before dropping back a little. Of course if I had followed tip 6 I would be there by now (you will have to read the thread to find this tip).

I would a ...[text shortened]... se your grade by 200% to 500% but if you believe that you have no chance of ever getting there.
Did you try cutting down your game load and spending a few more minutes on each game?

Might get your over that 2000 mark on Rhp!!

You are so close.

Yes! How close was 1967? but I didn't follow some of my advice and, despite having some good wins in the pipe line those losses were getting me down so I resigned a few and drew a few (dead draws) against weaker players and I am back down to 1924.

Never mind, quality is what matters and I should just slow down as, once you know what you are doing, all those bad mistakes happen when you are rushing.

Right, You need to be proud of your games. Try playing 10 instead of 20 games and you should get to 2000 very soon.

I once had my sight set on 2000 but i'm content now with where I am at. Maybe when i'm retired I'll come back and break that mark. 40ish years left, then you betta watch out 🙂

I started this thread 5 months ago when I had already breached the 1900 barrier.

In the intervening period there has been a lot of games, some set backs and most of all some hard work. I bought some new books and delved ever deeper into my existing books, an on line database and did an increasing amount of research on the openings and my opponents play. I had a bit of luck and won a few difficult games on timeouts or without ever getting out of that database and along the way I succeeded in losing badly to a 1500 player. My tactics did not improve (I did not work on those but I surely need to) but just a little extra time on the analysis board (and not moving instantly but coming back to it time and time again, in those particularly difficult positions) helped avoid the worst bluders. As always over confidence and moving too quickly was the cause of my biggest set backs (I expected to beat that 1500 easily and moved far too quickly making an elementary tactical error).

So the point is proven, my method works and getting to 2000 by following it is indeed possible but make no mistake it is not instant - it takes a lot of hard work and considerable effort. maintaining it will be even harder.

I hope to see a few more of you there is the "years" ahead.. Work at it and remember "Success comes to those that wait". Good luck.

You are making good progress. Up from 1400 in December to 1600 now. 200 points in 2 months is really good going!

I broke the 1900 barrier on August 27th and it was February 15th before I broke 2000 (almost 7 months) and that was only 100 points.

I've reached 1800 odd on another site (for not very long! Levelled out around 1600-1650 so this is about right) so it's not really an increase in level as in an increase in effort. 😳

Plus 1900-2000 is a lot harder than 1400-1600.

I don't know if I'll ever hit 1826 again. It completely shocked me the first time.:'(

On Diet Coke??????? 😕

Mind you, even after losing all those games on time outs he still has 290 games going.

Of course this thread is far superior to all those other and it is proven to work.
