Originally posted by der schwarze Ritteri gotta admit i'm kinda puzzled by moves 19 and 20 why do you both ignore the rook on d8 isn't it better to save the rook than the bishop??
That's some pretty fancy shuffling! On 16...bxc3, I doubt I could have calculated that far, but in my opinion, the tactical possibilities were ripe. For the sacrifice of the Knight, I would have gained the open b-file, pressure along the a8-h1 diagonal and still had the Queens on the board. Doubtless, my opponent thought the Knight buffet would h ...[text shortened]... ding some very strong lines. Also, a shout out to Calexico for giving me such stiff opposition.

3.g3
Black did not take advantage of this move...
exf4!, and if, gxf4? Qh4+ Ke2 Qxf4
after gxf4 black wins a pawn, prevents white castling, and leaves the King rather vunerable (moves like Bg4+ must me addressed)
so, I don't think f4 can be taken (not now anyway), unless anyone else can prove oth ...[text shortened]... urs black.
After, Qh4+ its all over, Black can simply overwhelm your defenceless king.

Black's Bishop on f1 is very strong since White has fianchettoed with g3 but swapped off his own light-squared Bishop. Also, if 19exd8(Q)+ Kxd8 20Kxf1 bxc3 21bxc3 allows 21...Bd6, covering the b8-square, thus giving Black the better game, say Khalifman.
or 20.exd8=q+ Kxd8 21.Bxh6 or 20...Rde8
Originally posted by aginis19...Bxh6 was new to me and not recommended in any of my books, however, 19...Re8 allows the very strong move 20Ne4! As you can see, the game was extraordinarily complex at this point.
ok that explains 19.Kxf1 but why 19...Bh6? and not 19...Re8
or 20.exd8=q+ Kxd8 21.Bxh6 or 20...Rde8
Back to the game: After 19...Bh6, whether I played 20exd8(Q)+ or 20Bxh6, the resulting positions are the same with the Black King on d8 and his Rook on h6.

4 recent finished games I liked:
Game 2202056 Yugoslav Attack
Game 2202004 No defence against Ne3-g2-f4
Game 2202005 Resigns on account of Nxf3+. gxf3, Nxf3+ wins Q, I like the move 13..Nf6, manouvering the knight to a more useful spot, If Qxf6?? then Bg5! wins Q
Game 2201508 Ruy Lopez
