Thanks for sharing. I probably should have put this thread in the general forum in the first place! Great to see all the comments from people who knew Mike.

My condolences to all his friends and family.
He was a good man. Had 3 games with him.

This was shocking and sad news. I'll miss the tough games he gave me and the witty/cheerful quality he brought to the forums.

Here's a game we played that I feel is a fitting tribute to his chess skill. He had white.

Nice touch resigning the games Paul Leggett and Vandervelde. Knowing Mike he'd appreciate the gesture. I've just done the same in our final game, which sadly, we had only just started.
Paul and Vandy are both class acts.

Rip Mike, was a good guy he even paid for a subscription once for me for no reason so goes to show he's a kind man and was a good friend I made on here. I played him a few times which was also fun. I will enter his tournament in his memory and rip and my thoughts are with his family.

However his death was suicide by taking too many colchicine tablets and drinking whiskey after battling an alcohol addiction for thirty years. very very sad, and we are all devastated, sorry but I want the truth out there. If anyone needs to get in touch I am on fb, and also my email is juxamoldrof@gmail.com. I dearly loved my little brother and am so shocked, hope I am not upsetting anyone, but I believe in telling the truth."

Hi Julie,

A double tragedy now knowing it need not have happened.

Very sad news.

I doubt we'll think less of him. May he rest in peace.

Committing suicide by an overdose of colchicine? That's a new one on me.

Here is Mike's facebook page, it has lots of great pictures of him and his wife:

Yes, doesn't seem to be a nice way to go. Poor bastard.
