You should be happy about computers in chess. I was talking to an FM last night who said when he was first learning the game that they had no access to opening theory at all and he showed me the type of openings they would play which were just awful by todays standards. It looks like you're just learning the game and feel swamped because computers have made this information more readily available, however you should be happy, see it as a vast library of information there for your benifit, we all find it overwhelming at times but once you start to plough through it its really not all that bad.

I'd shoot him in the face 6 times......then reload...
No, money hasn't ruined chess. No computers haven't ruined chess. In terms of playing online, cheaters have taken some luster off the game, but in a broad sense...the game is a competition and a mathematical puzzle to be solved at onother's expense. If they cheat, they haven't accomplished anything. If you lose to a cheat you haven't lost anything. You are not playing for your life or livelihood, and if you are, I suggest you do so in person, not online. The most one could expect to collect is bragging rights as to who is the better player. Big deal. Play the game; have fun; improve. If you can't do these things, then go play with yourself.
