Why do they have to be famous? About the only famous New Zealander I can think of off hand is Edmund Hillary and I haven't a clue whether or not he played chess.

Well, there are at least 2 FM's in the top 20, so for a random nobody to outperform titled players would be quite an achievement. That's all.

Depends, FMs aren't necessarily super duper powerful CC players, especially if they concentrate on OTB skills. The top guy on chess.com seems legit, he's survived the rather draconian banning system they have for many years now, and yet he is outperforming various titled players. I'd be more worried if you could show me a pre-computer CC master that Skeeter had soundly thrashed.
