this is a completely unsound gambit from a blitz game i just played.
I decided to play the KG, and since I'm a wee bit stoned I decided to play it no matter what black did. completely unsound, with a rook sac, but the finish was exciting and fun, which is what chess is all about. please spare me the refutations for white's moves, as im sure there's dozens.

It's a troublesome relationship though.Whenever I play it as white I lose,whenever I face it as black I lose 😞
Still the idea tickles my fancy 🙂
Ah, the old Cochrane's.
I remember years ago, just after I joined my first chess club, I played a skittles game when I played Nxf7 as a spur of the moment thing. I was quite proud of my descovery. I was brought back down to earth after the game when my foe pointed out that it was theory and was an obvious move anyway. What a pompus git he was:-)
I read somewhere that it should be played as a stratigic gambit, rather than a go-for-mate one. Though I know little about it, having not played any rated games with it.

It interests me very much to know what your favorite Gambit(s) may be. Whether a true Gambit like the Smith-Morra where the material cannot be immediately recovered, or a pseudo-gambit like the QGA (where it can be recovered quickly if desired) And whether it is your favorite to Play or to play Against.

What are some of ...[text shortened]... e Marshall Gambit/Attack of the "closed" Ruy; which then becomes not-very-closed anymore! 🙂
My favorite is the ever popular Smith-Morra Gambit (1.e4 c5 2.d4 cxd4 3.c3 dxc3 4.Nxc3). I've ensnared quite a few players with it, including a couple Class A players.
Not a gambit but very enterprising is this line against the Roy popularized by Brian Wall
1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bb5 Nf6 4. 0-0 Ng5 when in blitz you often get
5. h3 h6! and most people over 1500 see the trap but often you get people rushing into

the perfect one.... I just love it.
White give away a knight.... and get away with it...
ahhh love that one, For a year it was the only thing I aimed for. Unfortunately, if Black knows one of the many ways to refute it you're screwed.
My favorite gambit is a secret since I use it as my main line. My 2nd is the scandinavian gambit 1.e4 d5 2.exd5 Nf6 3. c4 c6! (completely sound, even by Fritz standards) 4. dxc6 Nxc6 Some beautiful traps games played in that one. For example the Lasker loss is pretty good. (or was it a win?).

I reckon it won't remain secret very long 😛
You're right, since I'm Topalov's second for the world championship and he's gonna use it there. However I promised not to unveil it until he crushes Anand with this powerful novelty!

Topalov pah! Vishy shall crush him like a paper cup!
Originally posted by Maxacre42 Not with my novelties he won't! Keep your eye on his games as white. Anand has no chance by the way. He's soooo rusty.
no way, Anand shall fly in on the new Russian/Indian Mig -35, offer up incense at the sacred temple of the origin of chess at its source in the upper Ganges in the Hindu Kush (now Pakistan) to an effigy of Mir Sultan Khan, and ol Topalov shall be crushed like a paper cup beneath a steam road roller while clutching your gambit in his hand like it was the black spot given to Long John Silver. The last act of a vanquished man.
