If you are the owner of this chess site and are convinced that I am cheating, why haven't you prevented me from playing?

I am not the owner of this site so I cant ban you. Just a freeloader who will remain as such until guys like you are dealt with.

But I will say you are a cheat and a liar.

If i was christian I would be ashamed to have you as the loudest voice in the room. Go back and learn from your scriptures false prophet.

You have a good point there.

It is really the fault of anyone who pays for a service that hasn't delivered in a long time. Money talks, and if everyone who is unhappy with the situation asked for a refund, which under UK law would come under "unfit for purpose", things might get done. As I see it now, the loss of revenue from banning cheaters outweighs members.

Cant blame Russ for being pragmatic, especially if the site is his livelihood.
I don't think that is true. Other chess sites like chess.com, playchess, ICC etc all ban cheaters quickly and are much better off than RHP.

I think it is more that this site is NOT his livelihood so he simply doesn't have the time.

But, and I am guessing here, he has like a thousand paying members at any one time.

That's a lot of cash for just a hobby.

There are likely much more than only 1000 paying members, as the number of participants of the annual RHP championships over the last couple of years are alrady close to this number.

The big question is: Will there ever be an incentive again to detect and penalise engine use, and if so how?

He has to pay for bandwidth... probably costs almost as much to run the site as he gets from memberships, wouldn't be surprised if he lost money some months.

RHP uses very little bandwidth - it's not as if it's streaming video. I'd imagine the bigger cost is for hosting that can handle many concurrent sessions, and I think the DB has needed upgrading a few times as well.

But for someone who owns a web site, these are good problems to have. 🙂

Yes, but its also fairly cheap memberships as well as all the free members who don't pay a dime.

The ads don't make up for that, I know that I don't even notice them anymore.

I was a paying member until you guys started threatening to have me banned for engine use and tell everyone else not to play me. So I did not renew my membership in anticipation of what might occur. How can you guys expect paying members, who do better than the average player on here, to remain members, when they are treated like I have been treated?

The average player does better in the forums, when compared to yourself.
