I think the point he is trying to get across is uchess.com or any site which require continous transmission of data can't be played if your server blocks a port which requires that. Many companies do that. My university campus does that too...so if u want fast games u can't get them....

There is one site chessmaniac.com which offers 30 min a side correspondence game. You need to refresh the page after every minute.You can try that.

In this site 6 hours a side games are doable if you add timebank as well. Anyway the other person who accepts it also enters knowingly..Unless it is a newbie.
