That might bring in some more revenue.

Or have you already considered it and dismissed the idea?

Of course if that idea were to be implemented, there should be some notice in advance.

Nope, we've been over this many times.

The ones who bring this up only want to deter the down votes they get.

I'm not sure you understand how much you embarass yourself with this non sequitur.

A few (or more than a few) vacation days seems in order.

Why not simply get rid of the thumbs; they are anonymous so fairly meaning less.

If thumbs were identified then all I can see is more abuse in the forums if a poster knows who gave them a thumbs down.

Anonymous does not mean meaningless.

If so, public opinion polls would be meaningless. Far from it. They reflect the Vox Populi. And as anonymous, people do not have to justify or defend themselves, and so the voice is more likely to remain true and accurate.

It's exactly why most democracies have secret ballots.

I respect your opinion and comments; however, can you 'trust' people to tell the truth / give their honest opinion?

Most people would prefer to be anonymous for fear of retribution but surely on a site like RHP whether I like a person's post or not is meaningless.

Who cares if I think the up / down vote should be abolished but I publicly voiced my opinion rather hide behind a down vote.

I have had thumbs up and down (more ups than down 😊) but I could not care less what an anonymous person thinks; I would much prefer to have a debate / discussion like we are doing now as opposed to simple up / down thumbs.

* How would this generate revenue? There are fewer than 20 people that could be called active posters. You think pwople would flock to the side because of that? Most users only play chess.

* The idea has been discussed been suggested frequently and was even voted upon once.

The suggestion to ablólish the thumbs (that I support) als found no majority .

The same proposal has been raised many times before. The consensus of opinion has been either that thumbs should remain anonymous or the feature should be deactivated altogether. Identifying thumbers would generate no new revenue. The anonymous thumbs function serves the same purpose as 'hear hear!' or 'rubbish!' murmured from the back benches; nothing more need be said, and no one need know who said it. It's a grand old parliamentary tradition.

If a vote/survey/poll is totally anonymous, why would people lie, or not give their honest opinion? Most would take the opportunity to say what they feel, since there can be no repercussion for doing so.

I seem to remember you are not even sure who you are talking to when talking to me, considering your revelation that you have mirage-like models of me in your head that have disappointed you for not being perfectly aligned or congruent.

How exactly could or should I help to correct that, given that it's your head and that I respect your personal sovereignty? -- although clearly I do deplore much of your harsh, savage, and untoward outward behavior.

As you might know, it's a challenge to be completely impersonal. However, it would have been nice if somewhere along the way you had acknowledged that perhaps I saw you a little better than your yes-man defenders, and that my rebuttals and advice turned out to be medicinal and beneficial.

And if your pride would not allow you to acknowledge such a thing, then it would be incorrect for me not to accept that.

I agree with what you say; to a certain extent.

Some people like to stir things up by giving incorrect information / answers just for the hell of it.

Personally,I never use or even look at the thumbs.
I think they are a waste of space and resources.
I don't even look at the "3 people recommended your post" when I get that message
I would imagine personalities are a big part of the thumbs thing as if someone you don't like puts up a post you give them a thumbs down and vice versa without any consideration.
Keep them or do away with them.I don't care either way.
