Don't worry, no one who reads these forums with any frequency is going to accuse you of altruism.

Where did divegeester suggest that twhitehead is "scum"? Isn't "scum" a word you have introduced and not divegeester?

Trying to silence dissenting opinion again?

divegeester hasn't called twhitehead "scum" or anything remotely like it. It's just something you made up so you could criticize him for it.

Suzianne, why did you just try to turn this thread into yet another personal attack, just when divegeester and twhitehead were finally starting to reach a reasonable position in their discussion?

So am I right that for you to be altruistic you would have to do something you didn't want?

But are you saying that only by doing something you do not want to do would your action not be self interest and thus really altruism?

Still not clear. Are you equating 'self interest' with 'intent'? So whatever one intends to do is necessarily 'self interest'?

It is not possible or at least easy for me to define altruism because it does not exist;
I am unhappy with this excuse. I see no reason why you cannot define something that doesn't exist, nor how you can claim something doesn't exist if you cannot define it.

Similar for you to explain why there is no God rather than explain what God should be when you don't believe it/he exists.
I most certainly can define God when I claim he does not exist. This is not quite the same as 'explaining what God should be'. I am not even sure what 'explaining what God should be' would entail. Would that be what properties I would expect God to have if he did exist? Certainly I could not give a lot of detail on that - but that is not the same as a definition.

Lets take fairies for example.
I can define what I mean by 'fairy'. I cannot tell you whether or not fairies have five or six fingers on each hand.
