What I mean is the word "God" brings up so many different ideas to different people. We are not in agreement what It is. Not even close.

Think of a glove with five fingers made in the image of a hand.
It is made this way so that a human hand may fit comfortably into the glove.
This is a good illustration to convey what the Bible means when it says that among all OTHER creatures God created, man alone was created in the image of God and according to God's likeness. It means we are in a kind of God shape for the purpose of having the uncreated and Eternal Person come into us.

I have a coin in my pocket with a depiction of George Washington's head on it. Is the coin George Washington?

We share qualities, due to how God created us since we were made in His image.
We fell, by breaking our fellowship with Him by defying God, so now those qualities are
in opposition to the Lord of Host as our nature is sinful, before a Holy God.
Originally posted by @very-rustyBeing made in the image of God and according to His likeness would make us fit to receive God into us. And this is why the created man was placed before "the tree of life". In light of the rest of the Bible we can see that this "tree of life" signifies God coming into man as "food" that God may be man's divine and eternal life.
If we are all made in Gods image, would this make us all Gods?

So what you have in Genesis is man created in a kind of metaphysical God shaped design. But man does not have the very God living in him yet. For that he was placed before "the tree of life" that the invisible God might enter into the visible man made in the image and likeness of God.
But God had an enemy. And this enemy always tries to run AHEAD of God and offer a counterfeit of God's eternal purpose. So another tree was there - "the tree of the knowledge of good and evil". Eating of it instead of eating of "the tree of life" caused man to become united with God's enemy Satan.
This one is independent from God.
This one was created with great wisdom and knowledge until he corrupted it by seeking to usurp the authority of God.
So you have a triangular situation in the early days of man's creation.
On one side you have God - the eternal and divine Person.
On the other side you have Satan the enemy of God, a being of death.
In the middle meant to choose one destiny or the other you have man created innocent, neutral, very good yet without having yet receive God into him as divine life.
Adam made the wrong choice. And the rest of the Bible is about God's plan to bring man back to being able to receive Himself as the divine and eternal life - meaning the mingling, uniting, and interweaving of God and humanity.
So are close in realizing that God's eternal plan was to BECOME a man so that man might BECOME God in life and nature and expression but not in His Godhead or Fatherhood. In other words the communicable attributes of God He intends that natural men created in His image would partake of.
I have purposely spoken somewhat above you to encourage you to come up in your realization of the Bible's revelation. Today the tree of life is really Jesus Christ who tells us repeatedly that He is the life of God for us.
" I am the way and the truth and the life."
"I am the bread of life."
" I am the resurrection and the life."
"In Him was life ..."
"Because I live, you also shall live."
"... come to me that you may have life."
" Out of his innermost being shall flow rivers of living water."
"Christ who is our life"
"For me to live is Christ"
" The water that I shall give him shall become a fountain springing up into eternal life."
"He that eats me, he also shall live because of Me."
We are made in the image and likeness of God to become an expansion of His life as He distributes His communicable attributes into us causing us to be blended with God.
