Nobody knows for sure how old it is, but the majority of the scientific community believes it is approximately 4.6 billion year old.

Because it could a percentage either way. Therefore you aren't 'sure' how old it is but you can say it is 4.6 billion years plus or minus X% and be a certain percentage certain that it is within that range (normally 95% or 99% sure).
