Regarding the OP: I do believe that from the "Baby Boomers" forward; succeeding generations have grown permissive of self-pity.

There was a time when suffering with dignity was an expectation. Evidence of that ethos is scattered all across many Depression Era films and journalistic media.

Why this happened is subject to debate: But it certainly has happened.

Everyone knows you have announced yourself to be a Christian. Anyone can do that. Romans1009 did that, for example, and - as if it somehow substantiated his claim - he regurgitated loads of scripture. It was what it was.

Reading and understanding the whole bible is not necessary for eternal life in the Kingdom of God. What is necessary is keeping the commandments of Jesus Christ who died on the cross for all of mankind and thereby paid the debt owing for sin.
