That too has had a large negative effect.

One of the biggest issues with AIDS was that it was in effect a death sentence and that lead to a lot of denial. Denial led to a refusal to modify behavior. Now that treatment has made it a lot less of a death sentence, behavior is changing.

Having observed the amount of denial humans are capable of when faced with death I often wonder to what extent religion is based on a similar denial.

Saying "never use condoms" isn't a message of abstinence.

I have no problem with the pope actually promoting abstinence, but saying condoms INCREASE the risk of aids is nothing short of lying.

I have no doubt that some catholics do not just abstain from sex outside of marriage and they aren't immune to AIDs and HIV hence they should be encouraged to use condoms.

At least here in the US the evidence is that people in abstinence only programs have just as much sex as those who are not, but they just have more unprotected sex - i.e. they drive just as much, but they just wear their seat belt less often.

I've always wondered what the catholics do about all them millions of
sperm who doesn't make it even when injected deeply inside a
fruitful womb containing a happy egg. Do the catholics morn and pray
    during ejaculation?

"Uh! Uh! Oh, GOD! Uuuuh! Why!? Another twenty million some sperms
dead! Oh, the cruelty! Why? Why-yh-uuuuh?"

    Or:

    1. Everyone should be happy, but you can't be happy until you are born.

    2. Great pleasure isn't a sin in itself

The Pope promotes the message that the proper context of sex is within monogamous marriage. He also is against the use of condoms, for reasons that are to do with the notion that the proper context of sexual activity is respected by not using a device which is specifically designed to thwart procreation. Mind you, a Vatican commission is looking into whether condoms could be justified in some circumstances.

Now, you have made an accusation that the Pope has said that the use of condoms increases the risk of aids, and that this constitutes lying. But consider this, who is at more risk, a monogamous person who follows Catholic teaching, or a promiscuous person who uses condoms? The answer is not so easy to calculate is it?
