.. the Early Church with modern Christianity.

Act 4:32 -35 And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common.
And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all.
Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold,
And laid them down at the apostles' feet: and distribution was made unto every man according as he had need.

What they had which we lack: the apostles. You are, after all, quoting from the book of Acts (as in, the acts of the apostles).

Our religious leaders are not up to scratch then ?

I'm not sure anyone since Jesus has been given the level authority the apostles were given.

You see? Jesus was a socialist. This passage, and Acts 2:43 - 47, are the reason the Hutterites live communally, with no private property.

Christ was definitely in not in favour of the rich so I guess he wont have liked capitalism ..

Matt 19:23 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven.

Luke 6:24 But woe unto you that are rich! for ye have received your consolation.

The bible is filled with passages against the rich. It's one of the most frequently recurring topics. It's amazing, though, how so many Christians will simply ignore that and pretend that capitalism is somehow compatible with Christianity.

regarding the Hutterites, it seems to me not to be socialism, but communism. The two may share some common characteristics but are not synonymous.

Even Christ learned a trade with which to support his family, as did Paul, who gave up his privileges and practised tent making.

I have no interest in your perception of the subtle distinctions between "socialism" and "communism".

You are truly blind, Divegeester. Any fool can see the great number of passages condemning the rich.

Learning a trade is not a restricted to capitalism. There will surely be carpenters and tent makers in the Kingdom.

Another example of the blind leading the blind.

Glasgow has a proud socialist tradition, but we are not communists, and the distinctions are not subtle nor a perception, its a fact. You have claimed through your text that socialism and communism are one and the same, not so.
