When John says "we shall be like Him" he doesn't mean things like:
Jesus worse sandals so we shall also.
Jesus wore a robe so we shall also wear robes.
We shall be like Him has to do with Christians having the divine nature by which they live finally being visibly manifested and marveled at. This is the deification that we may believe is meant in the New Testament.
"Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not yet been manifested what we will be. We know that if He is manifested, we will be like Him because we will see Him even as He is." (1 John 3:2)
Here in First Thessalonians 1 it speaks of Christ being glorified IN His saints and the marvel that this will be.
"They will pay the penalty of eternal destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His strength when He comes to be glorified in His saints and to be marveled at in all those who have believed (because our testimony to you was believed) in that day." (1 Thess. 1:10)
See? In the manifestation of the sons of God Christ from within these believers will be marveled at. His enemies go to eternal destruction and the marvel of the manifestation of the shining out of the divine nature will appear.
Jesus gave a glimpse of this on the Mount of Transfiguration before three of His disciples (Matt. 16:28 - 17:13)
@divegeester
If you have been reading my replies to this oft repeated charge you would know what my answer would be.
Now we Christians are on THIS SIDE of death. And already one part of our being is absolutely one with God. Our spirit has become one spirit with God the Holy Spirit.
"He who is joined to the Lord is one spirit." (1 Cor. 6:17)
This is before death.
This does not mean I am the Godhead.
But it does mean that the man or woman who is "joined to the Lord" is "one spirit" with the Lord.
We should not claim we are God in His Fatherhood or Godhead for sure.
But neither should we shrink from believing that to receive the Lord into our spirit is to be joined to Him and made one spirit with Him. He is the Godhead.
@sonship saidYou can delude yourself all you like. The bible describes the characteristics and the changes that takes place when Jesus lives in the professed believer. You are not one of them and Jesus does not live in you.
@Rajk999
I am a Christian.
I have been redeemed for eternity and have the assurance of eternal life.
And I am learning to walk by the Spirit and abide in the teaching of the anointing.
We will see at the judgment seat of Christ if I will receive reward or discipline.
I am not assured of reward. But I am assured of justification by faith and that
Christ ...[text shortened]... enraged because of that you have a problem. It doesn't matter how much you talk about commandments.
@sonship saidDId you read the part where John says the only way you will be like Christ and partake in His divine nature, is if you keep the commandments ?
When John says "we shall be like Him" he doesn't mean things like:
Jesus worse sandals so we shall also.
Jesus wore a robe so we shall also wear robes.
We shall be like Him has to do with Christians having the divine nature by which they live finally being visibly manifested and marveled at.
And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.
(1 John 3:24 KJV)
@sonship saidMore annoying errors in quoting the bible. You cannot even do that right
"They will pay the penalty of eternal destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His strength when He comes to be glorified in His saints and to be marveled at in all those who have believed (because our testimony to you was believed) in that day." (1 Thess. 1:10)
Here is 1 Thess 1 :10
And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come. (1 Thessalonians 1:10 KJV)
@sonship saidSo here is the correct reference and the full story :
Here in First Thessalonians 1 it speaks of Christ being glorified IN His saints and the marvel that this will be.
"They will pay the penalty of eternal destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His strength when He comes to be glorified in His saints and to be marveled at in all those who have believed (because our testimony to you was believed) in that day." (1 Thess. 1:10)
And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, In flaming firetaking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power; When he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day. (2 Thessalonians 1:7-10 KJV)
Its 2 Thess. You again, remove the parts you dont like and doctor the words to suit your doctrine.
Here the important thing is WHO WILL JESUS TAKE VENGEANCE ON?
The answer : .. taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:
The only time you can claim to know Christ, or abide in Christ is when you keep the commandments
And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him. He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked. (1 John 2:3-6 KJV)
Its 2 Thess. You again, remove the parts you dont like and doctor the words to suit your doctrine.
I know the New Testament better than you do.
I could quote more. I only need to quote a portion.
Nothing you quoted further or wrote in any way nullifies that Christ will be glorified in His saints and marveled at.
When he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day. (2 Thessalonians 1:7-10 KJV)
@divegeester
You should not rudely ignore my posts and then "politly" bump questions.
At no time is anyone else in the universe a part of the Godhead.
That is neither before creation, after creation before death, after death, ever in eternity past or ever in eternity future.
The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are ever and always only the Godhead.
@sonship saidHis Saints are those who preach and practice a Living faith, and this must include keeping the commandments. You and your doctrine of dead faith cannot qualify as one of the Saints of Christ. Your knowledge and your profession of faith is your downfall, because your knowledge and faith is DEAD and USELESS.
@Rajk999Its 2 Thess. You again, remove the parts you dont like and doctor the words to suit your doctrine.
I know the New Testament better than you do.
I could quote more. I only need to quote a portion.
Nothing you quoted further or wrote in any way nullifies that Christ will be glorified in His saints and marveled at.When he shall ...[text shortened]... eve (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day. (2 Thessalonians 1:7-10 KJV)
Being glorified in the saints is not verses obeying Christ.
Saints are all human beings in whom the Spirit of Christ is.
"Yet if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ he is not of Him." (Rom. 8:9)
Not all will be rewarded with this manifestation as sons at the same time.
All saints will eventually be manifested as sons of God.
Because not all saints will receive this reward at the same time, John says that there is the possibility that some children of God will be put to shame from Him at His coming - a temporary punishment.
"And now little children, abide in Him, so that if He is manifested, we may have boldness and not be put to shame from Him at His coming.
If you know that He is righteous, you now that everyone who practices righteousness also has been begotten of Him. " (1John 2:28,29)
The deification that we speak of is the manifestation of the sons of God.
"We shall be like Him because we shall see Him even as He is."
Christ in the believers is the hope of glory.
"To whom God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles which is Christ in you the hope of glory." (Col. 1:27)
