sigh, perhaps once or twice when i was confronted with an affront to the truth, but
mostly jesting, as a ragged clown, is supposed to do.

No. Too much of a huffy sulker. Wrong kind of vanity: too brittle.

Maybe a 'spin doctor' behind the scenes.

For an authoritarian regime, maybe; not for a democratic politician. 😵

I've been to my local chess club 4 times and played one league match so far. I've not technically joined and won't have to until September as that's when registration for the new season begins. What's it like? Imagine a room full of men playing chess. 🙂 Is it worth it? I enjoy it so it's worth for me. Find your local one and pop along.

hmm, do you have lectures etc? or is it purely for the purpose of play, by that I mean,
for competition? There are so many in the parts of Glasgow around me, but none in
    my actual little town!

Purely for the purpose of playing, people are more than welcome to come and play a few games on club night without having to play any league games.

hmm, it sounds ok, when i picture a chess club i think of men in dinner jackets, with
long moustaches, smoking cigars and reading The Times while some young Indian
serves Pimms No1 with crushed ice and lemonade, now they let anyone in, with training
shoes and T-shirts! Oh the empire! the Great British empire, America was lost and the
world with it! sigh. I hope you wear a tie PK, I would. Or perhaps its more of the
socialist working mens club that we still have in Glasgow, who can say. The closest one
to me is in a war memorial hall, i have mixed feelings about entering it. At least its not
a church, which is out of bounds, 4sure.
