But how many did die from guns yesterday just in the USA, or last week or last month or this last year?
You want to see the figures or not?
How about 87 a day, everyday of every week of every month.

Just saw this about Chicago:
"The war zone-like statistics are not new. As WBEZ reports, while some 2,000 U.S. troops have been killed in Afghanistan since 2001, more than 5,000 people have been killed by gun fire in Chicago during that time, based on Department of Defense and FBI data."
Not to make light of the soldiers being killed but they usualy make the news daily but you never hear of the ones in Chicago. I guess that's not important enough to mention or maybe because it makes the USA look really bad with the gun problems.
Maybe we should send RJH there and let him clean it up?

The both of them together will be like Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday.

Absolutely horrendous. And I agree with you completely, Galveston. The fact is that there will always be mentally deranged people in the community and it does not help when gun access is unrestricted. I see no conceivable reason why the murderer's mother, a teacher's aide, needed two handguns if it really was such a safe community.

Of course. But you might want to expand on what you want to say to those you refer to as "you gun people". Could one good shot by one of these "gun people" at the beginning of this absolutely horrible incident have saved the lives of as many as 26 or 27 children?
Joe Random who happens to have a 9mm in his waistband probably isn't going to be a good enough shot (or even know his weapon well enough) to give the would-be killer a single headshot to end it, and also happens to have a much higher chance of getting whacked by the cops just showing up on the scene, since they tend to think anyone with a gun is a threat.
Originally posted by SuzianneTrue. If anyone has a gun pulled in that situation the cops would take you down if they even think your the one shooting or the slightest wrong move they may make at the cops.

The police would be on extreem alert and world probably shoot very easily and who would blame them?

Originally posted by FMFMaybe it would be hard for them to know who is who? Anyone with a gun is never going to be assumed by the police that he is the good guy and the other one is the bad guy.

Would you be able to tell in just a split second if both shooters were shooting at each other?
I don't believe they would be wearing signs annoucing who they actually were?
Originally posted by galveston75Wouldn't killing them both at least have saved 20 or more lives, most of them children? And if the law abiding citizen made the shot and then threw the gun down and put his hands in the air, wouldn't that have been an even better outcome?

Well first off it is not unpredictable... it's not even close to being unpredictable.
The only thing that couldn't be predicted about this atrocity is where or when.
That it happened was nigh on inevitable.

Originally posted by Proper KnobI will do you one better. I will give you an example. Many years ago, my Father and Mother (then pregnant) were driving their old truck down some lonly Texas road when a group of Banditos (motorcycle gang) pulled up and around them and tried to start forcing them off the road. Fortunately my Dad pulled an old firearm from somewhere and held it up for them to see. They let my parents go. Now, it was luck in this case that the presence of a firearm was enough to deter potential robbery, assault, rape, murder or all of the above. However, had the gang not decided to give up the chase, a semi-automatic with a higher capacity certainly would have given my Dad a better chance of shooting his way out with multiple assailants than his rusty old bolt action or whatever.
Explain to me a situation in which a semi-automatic assault rifle is needed for defence.

I know you may not be in a society where guns are as near previlent as they are here and have not seen what we have.
But the police departments here are very well trained and should be admired with the professionalism most display.
They usually make good decisions in split seconds of time when confronted with these terrible acts. But they are still human and absolutely no guarentee they will not shoot anyone that has a gun in hand if confronted with one of these horrible situations.
So I can't tell you what would really happen in every situation. But a gun fight with other people all around could cause more damage then not. I don't know at all what could possibly happen so no sense in asking "what if" kind of questions.
