Patently not true. People go through rituals all the time with no religious content, putting on your shoes, shaving, girl puts on makeup, a guy throws salt over his shoulder, knock on wood. Those are rituals but not religious. Superstitious maybe but not religious. Take a look at the Masonic temple rituals, some religious but most not.
