Caged existence, stifled natural behavior. No thank you big chickens, I'd rather be free to play chess 🙂

And suppose some young kids were watching... you get my drift ? 🙂_
No way! I carry a machete everywhere I go just in case. 😉

"Is this another topic about which you seem to nonchalantly lean back into biblical scripture, but when questioned you seem to have no practical opinions on its out-working in your everyday life?"

Not at all! I'm just avoiding beating my head against the block wall of minds that seem devoid of common sense.

We all agree that man is inhumane toward not only animals, but to anything that moves. Most people don't harm animals, but some do. For profit. For cruelty. It will never end till Jesus returns.

That's all I have to say on the matter.

How does this view of yours actually affect what you buy and what you eat?

Brazil: Foie gras banned in Sao Paulo restaurants
Legislators in Brazil's largest city, Sao Paulo, have banned the production and sale of foie gras, a delicacy made from the fatty liver of force-fed ducks and geese. City councillors said animals go through a great deal of suffering for the ...[text shortened]... ecific standards ~ be they spiritual or otherwise ~ by which human behaviour can measure itself?

even species on the brink of destruction?

I know "god" said that the Earth is for us to enjoy and to have dominion over the life on the planet.

But I still think this is wrongly interpreted . We should be custodians of the planet, thinking of future generations of people, let alone the ongoing torture of the meat we eat
This is only "wrongly" interpreted by people who don't understand the scripture.

Having "dominion" here clearly means for us to have a "stewardship" over them and not to just kill them by the most expedient method or to eat everything today with no thought of maintaining the supply in a healthy manner. We are what we eat.

You said, in terms of how the food you eat is processed, "common sense means not at the expense of torturing animals." Are there any foods you don't eat because you don't like the way they are produced?
Is there no topic so droll, you won't troll?

Of course having "dominion" means being a wise "steward" of the earth and all there is in it!

I don't eat food on the brink of extinction. That's crazy! And I don't know anyone who does. Jesus man! Why do people go there?
Scooped. Good job, Joe. 🙂

My hens and eggs are natural, they don't take batteries.

This is certainly not as big a deal as you are presenting that it is.

If you have a problem with josephw, then out with it, and don't use excuses to "bad-mouth" him. That's what trolls do, especially ones who really don't care too much about the topic they are trolling in. In fact, the topic doesn't matter at all to those who follow people around, "bad-mouth"ing them in thread after thread, none of which has any relation to the original beef.

Ate foie gras at a dinner party once (so as not to be rude) but regretted it since.
It is a disgusting practice.

I was fishetarian for over 10 years but lapsed.
We buy free-range eggs, chicken and pork.
it's more expensive per kilo but we buy smaller cuts for the same
maoney. Probably healthier for our bodes as well as our souls!

As I have said before the way we treat our animals, our sick, our
children and our convicts is what defines us as a society.

I buy grass fed beef from a farmer. I also get my milk raw from an organic dairy. We buy our vegetables from the Amish and other organic growers. We have a garden of our own as well. We used to can a lot of food, but have gone over to freezing for freshness and nutritional quality.

I really don't "feel" so strongly about this topic since it comes naturally from years of work. I wish everyone was as fortunate as we are to have the resources we enjoy. Especially in underdeveloped countries, and even within our own borders. Most eat out of a box from factory industries where animals are confined and crops are sprayed with poisons, and in resent years grown from genetically altered seed.

Having said all that, we still don't live in the garden of Eden, and still eat out, or bring home some really great pizza and beer. 😉

I might add my wife is an excellent cook and devotes a lot of time in food preparation since most of what we eat is made from scratch.
