We beat Mexico 2-0 earlier this year.

Hopefully we will meet up with Mexico again in the Gold Cup finals.

We would play Canada in the semi-finals if both teams win in the first round.

Canada is playing well this year.

Our other wins have come versus:

    Ecuador 3-2
    China 4-1
    Denmark 3-1

+ the three shuouts in the Gold Cup

I heard Canada was doing well but we don't follow football here.

    What are these matches for?

    Playoffs?

Now we go into the finals. 8 team elimination.

Cananda plays Guatemala for the right to face the winner of US v. Panama.

Canada won this event in 2000.

    Then what happens?

They have so many different leagues and championships it's hard to keep track of everything.

8 team elimination playoff. The winner is the Gold Cup champion.

Say Canada and US square off in the semis, the winner goes on to meet the winner of the lower bracket, possibly Mexico or Honduras.

The winner is champ for the next four years and gets an automatic bid into the World Cup (I think.) So, for Canada, a win is huge.

Ah, see these different cups are confusing.

I though you were talking about the World Cup and I was thinking World Cup and Canada, haha!

    But now it makes sense.

That makes sense, do you also get a gold star to go with the cup?

Why is it called the cup?

At least the Stanley Cup looks somewhat like a cup and you can drink out of it.

Beckham's persona will lift the image of his new side and inspire youngsters in the West Coast to become football stars. He is employed as a promotions officer, mentor and player coach package. He'll do fine there. He said openly on tv that he left Europe before his playing days were finished so he could give some of his form to his new team.. that and super zillions on bucks.

When you've done with him send him down to NZ we need another pom to tell us how to kick it we yer 'ead.. ;-)
