Your salary argument is just wrong. Four of the bottom six teams are in the playoff hunt. Two added players at the deadline. Tampa has the second lowest salary and they won the toughest division two of the last three years. The Pirates have the third lowest slary and are above .500. The 5th lowest salary is the Indians they are competing for a divisio ...[text shortened]... since your favorite team plays in the NL Central, you of all people should never ever complain.
Have you looked at the standings lately?

Tampa is a whopping 10.5 games out!! Pittsburg is 6 games out. Both are out of the race. Clevland is on the cusp at 2.5 games out and Arizona is 1 game out. None of the teams you mentioned lead their division.

As for the Cubs, the organization is a dysfunctional mess. And to top it off they are cursed. The Mets.....well.....they are the Mets. They will probably continue down the same path for all eternity. So what? The White Sox? Eh, bad year. As I said, there are always a handful of high payroll teams that don't have winning seasons.

Wow, according to the whodey crystal ball, unless you are currently in the lead, you are out of it.
Even teams one game out aren't in the mix.

Then why the hell are you still chirping about your Reds? They are 7 games out....
BEHIND Pittsburgh.

Obviously you are unfamiliar with the dog days and the effect they can have on baseball
pennant races.

Look at the 2005 Astros if you want recent history.

Say what you will but at the end of the day all that matters is who miakes it and who does not. I predict perhaps one, at the most two small market teams may make it to the playoffs. Then at the end of the day the larger market teams will have a statistical edge at winning the World Series.

As for the Reds, yes, they are toast. There is no sign of life in Cincinnati.

I got my years wrong, what I meant to say is that they will win the World Series NEXT year.

Sorry for the typo. 😀

Every year small market teams compete and every year there are big market teams which stink.
Tampa has won the best division against the biggest spenders two of the past three years. Minnesota has been extraordinarily successful too. San Diego was in the race all of last year; Arizona is a game out; Cleveland is right in the race too.

You make so many exceptions to your rule, that any premise could be true.

I can't belive there is still an argument to this.

Top 4 salary teams are in the playoffs. End of discussion.

You are full of crap. The season has two more months to go.

And, so what if they make it in? That means 4 that weren't top salaries did.

Is your point that being a top salary gives you a 50-50 chance of making the playoffs?

You and whodey haven't got one brain between you.

They will never stop no matter how many World Series are won by these big payroll teams. Just so long as a few token small market teams make the playoffs every year, we will continue to hear that our assertions are full of poo.

If you make stupid arguements how do you expect them to be evaluated? The third place team in the AL east is probably better than any team in the division you root for. You should be happy the system is so generous that it gives you a playoff spot each year and allows you to have an easier schedule by playing unbalanced schedule against bad teams which gives you an advantage in the wild card race. Instead you complain endlessly.

Let me guess, you are a fan of a large market team.

As for the meager bone MLB throws a small market team every year by letting them lose in the playoffs, they can keep their bone and choke on it. 😀

All I know is I stopped watching baseball. Enjoy the charade from here on out. No small market team is going to win it all. Mark it down spanky.

Not only do I not agree that small market teams in MLB cannot compete I think that it is more equitable than many other sports.

College football has huge inequities but no one complains it isn't fair. Professional soccer has even larger inequities. In basketball, the best player in the world signs for less than maximum he can play with his buddies in a low tax region.

So you say that there are inequities in parity in all other sports EXCEPT baseball?

How bizarre. Why is that if not the $$$$?

I think the NFL is perhaps the best at this with their salary caps and such.
