Group of doom 🙂

Exactly how I felt when I saw I was in with Gatecrasher .

Here is a quick run through of some of the more exciting groups and names to watch out for in the 2009 Championship!

Group 2
Siskin, Procyk, Clandarkfire
All rated 1800 ish and up

Group 4
Quirine, Sami Vuori, Blanca
Quirine is former Champ against two strong players, Blanca's rating is low, but he has been known to play at over 2000 rating. So this should be a very interesting group.

Group 14
Ghost of Marmorstein, Palo77, Jackinblack1983
All over 1800

Group 17
Finnegan, R O C K Y, Porygon, Huntingon
All players have flirted with 1900 ratings and it should be interesting to see who will come out on top

Group 19
hoededoe, Infomast, DrRobotnik
All are over 1800

Group 30
Hawkeye, Hells Caretaker
Both players are rated 1972 and 1933 respectively, which means some exciting games between the two

Group 40
Laurentmeric, LexRex, HansRudel
Respectively rated 2172, 2050, 2039...This is a very tough group

Group 47
Robbi, Medievalist, Sven1000
This group is interesting because Sven is a former 2100 + player, and although he is currently the lowest rated of the three (which both players are rated 2012 and 1914 respectively, while Sven is only 1700), Sven should give them a good run, and possibly win the group.

Group 55
Caesare, Seinfeldfan91, Caissad4
All players are rated over 2000, there will be some awesome games in this group

Group 63
Najdorfslayer, Kinggg2, Chessicle
All three are over 1800

Group 70
Gatecrasher
Current Champion, looking to repeat! Good luck!

Group 73
Agarda, Farnaby, Funkdunky71
All three players have flirted with 2000 and should make for a tough group

Group 74
RedderG, Raw, DancingDog, Gleon, RichardCjennings, Guyhahmais, Techsouth, yournightmare
All players are over 1773 with RedderG the strongest with 1887, however, Gleon is a former 1950 and i think he will do well in this group. Should be a lot of upsets...

Group 75
Redmike, Schakuhr, Ayatolah
All three players flirt with 2000 ratings, and have been known to be very strong

Group 77
Cinco, Ferreiraglenn
Players are 2044 and 2042 respectively and will provide two strong games...

Group 78 Tripcyc, GBMCM, BobbyChess
All over 1800 rating

Group 88
Korch
Runner up in the last championship

Group 89
Yuga, Davejacks
Respectively their ratings are 2055 and 2041, should be some fun games...

Regardless of rating most groupings will be fun to watch, good luck to all!

That IS good news, Korch. Even better is that it's 28 games, not 30. You'll be fine.

Since there are so many entrants in the 2009 Championship, is there a quick way to locate a specific player?

This shows once again that it seems the groups are totaly random. Wouldn't it make more sense to spread out the high rated players more evenly?

lol rookgrabber is prone to the odd mistake.

i've been watching a game being played in my group which could produce a bigger shock but it's not over yet so will wait before posting it. the lower rated player should win but you never know.

WOW. Come on the little guys 🙂

RookGrabber 100 day high (1924 but currently 1759) vs gundamon 100 day high (1369 but currently 1325).

I wonder how long gundamon pondered the gift?

Pity, that looked like a win for white. However, I might have went for a draw if my opponent was 500 points higher than me.

no upsets in my group yet, but I think I will win Game 5824510. Its still in progress, so no coments please.

This one is just plain extraordinary:

Group 11:
Second-highest rated player in the group loses
Game 5826755
cfv78 (1700s) vs andy241983 (1300s)
The 1300-rated player wins. In 4 moves

Perhaps a case of conditional moves gone wrong?

Ouch!!! That's gotta hurt!!!

With so many games to get going, especially if you're a 'better', player it's far too easy to overlook the basics. I've done it myself, but not quite as spectacular as that!!

What a mistake this was... I went from a few slow paced games to more than 30...

Group 13: The two top rated players make 2 draws,
even without really playing, Game 5827102 and Game 5827062 after 6 moves in each game.
Strange, strange, strange...
Are they afraid of me, the third top rated player in this group??

I am afraid, not really :'(
