I dunno, man, this isn't my world anymore, I'm a dying breed, and have taken myself and my beloved off to darkest Indonesia to watch the show from a distance. Sure, by all means try, but applying reason to the world as it is feels like shovelling smoke with a pitchfork, and it's getting windy.....

I am still waiting for somebody (anybody) to explain why AI is a threat to humanity. Sam Altman said that 3 years ago and few people took notice. He never explained why either. None of the AI CEOs have.

In the worst case scenario I see maybe an inconvenient mess. Where is all this extinction of humanity crap coming from? And why isn't anybody on the TV news asking how that could happen. Why it is possible. Is there not one person with the guts to say "that is silly unless you can explain why and how".

An AI program does not have a body. How is it going to kill anybody?

People are talking about current events. Because the situation has only gotten worse since Sam Altman said that, and no one has even tried to control the situation. Bernie's asking for more safeguards before this clearly destructive technology continues to permeate through our culture and hack its way to controlling vital infrastructure.

That is just hacking. Going from hacking to killing us all is quite a leap. But if that is what you are really worried about Isaac Asimov came up with the solution before AI existed.

But that is only if you can regulate AI. You cannot force anybody to program anything unless you know they are doing it. How do you know I am not creating AI right now?

I don't believe that. But even if it were true how about disconnecting them? How fargin hard is that? LOL!

Funny how nobody had this problem before the internet existed and thing were just fine. Nobody is forcing you to connect things to the internet. People do that by choice. Remember when voting machines were connected to the internet? Don't do that anymore. Remember when the water supply of some city was hacked because it was connected to the internet? Don't do that anymore. Remember when Israel hacked Iran's centrifuge settings? I am sure Iran learned a good lesson from it and they don't do that anymore.

I know you may have forgotten, but we used to live without the internet and it was not so bad. We didn't have any hacking problems and things worked just fine. Remember?

You're making the silly and semantic "guns don't kill people, people kill people" argument but there's a good reason why we still don't let people have nuclear weapons.

There's no functional difference between AI ending humanity and a human using AI to end humanity.

Of course if you know the plot of that movie, the AI destroyed humanity because the humans were too dumb to see the obvious warning signs and THEN the robot was sent back to the past to fix things.

So, the "serious" part of the fictional movie does not revolve around time travel or humanoid robots at all. There are hundreds of highly plausible scenarios where agentic AI goes off the rails and "accidentally" leads to a lot of human suffering. A single bad actor can wipe out most of humanity with this technology and we still don't have a good answer for it.
