[Regarding whodey's point, I think it's a little different for politicians, since it's their job to make policy. So, even if they themselves are hypocrites (as with Ted Kennedy and his opposing to the Nantucket Sound wind farm project), at least he could argue that it's his job to dictate policy for the rest of us in spite of his personal behavior.
Actually I will have to disagree. People are free to be hypocrites, in fact, we all have at one point or another. That is their business. However, it is a little different when the same hypocrites have power over me, then it become my business!! 😠

As far as you saying that it is worse for actors to feel guilty for their hypocrisy, I will have to disagree with that as well. I say that if they feel guilty, there is still hope for them as there is for the rest of us if we feel guilty for our hypocrisy. As for those on Washington....well......hope for them I think is gone.

You're not going to like this, but I think you need to lighten up on government a little. Government is made of people. Some people are good and some are bad and most are in between. Not every member of government is a power hungry megalomaniac.

Lighten up on the government? I thought the reason we are in such a predicterment is because people had simply gone to sleep for far to long? They are only now just beginning to wake up. If not, where were the tea parties beforehand? No my friend, the battle has not even begun!!

I like what Jefferson said, he said something to the effect that government will continue to grab for power, and the only thing that will stop them is if the people fight for that power themselves. Otherwise, kiss it all goodbye!!

That is so true wadster. I wish Jefferson would have made a statement about how tricky and deceptive the govts. power grab would be. Everything seems plausible to the average person as we let govt power escalate. The main thing now is that people are waking up and hopefully it will be timely enough to stave off some kind of bloodbath.

They feed the notion that they can keep us "safe" and "secure". Of course, we surrender something for this security. In fact, where does it end? It seems to me that the search for safety and security is a never ending one.

Kind of convienient for them aint it? Who would have guessed it would be so deceptive? Bush has done more to harm the country than all the acts of real terrorism combined. Looks like the O man is following his footsteps to totalitarianism. Gotta figure out how to get executive power and the patriot act as issues for future elections. I know they just lie to get elected but gotta try all means possible.

I can't speak for joe, but I do. It's going to take a long time to fix the damage that Bush perpetrated.

My comment was not inspired from political bias if that is what you are getting at.

Should the blame be put squarely on the shoulders of "W"? After all, he was merely following the inane policy of dependence on foriegn oil of all the administrations before him His daddy was there, Clinton was there and then he took a stab at it. So what are we doing now? We are following the same inane policy of dependence on foriegn oil. In fact, we are still there!! If we pull out, I am sure the US will be back at some point unless they change their dependence on it.

As for other damage he has done, he inacted one of the biggest entitlement programs in US history. In fact, Obama jokes about not having any way of paying for it....not that it really matters to him.
