The author of the article doesn't seem to understand the situation.

It wouldn't have made it impossible.
Hadfield initiated the conversation.
BNL responds.
They have a few exchanges, all in real-time.
Walk through the steps, you'll see if Hadfield was, indeed, a second or more behind, none of it could have occurred.

How can you be sure that the broadcast has not been subtly delayed but not in the way you're talking about, but allowing a lead time of say 5 minutes between live and broadcast giving the show editor enough time to remove the dead air of communication delay to present a "seamless" conversation?

Other than their claim to recording, presenting live. no way of thinking anything else.

No, twhitehead, you do not “only have your (my) word on that,” you have the video which you and anyone else can readily watch and do the very thing you suggested: see if there is anything he could have been reacting to, eleven seconds--- or any seconds--- after the fact
I am part of 'everyone' and I watched the video and saw no evidence to support your claim. You claim the astronaut is reacting to a particular event. There is no evidence whatsoever that he is doing so. So yes, we only have your word on that.

The networks have long promoted "live" broadcasts that were never truly live in terms of broadcasting an event as it was actually happening. Certain sports events only get a seven second delay for sure, but that's not always the case because prime time in the west lags the east by a few hours so the live event has to be held on ice as it were until the decks have been cleared of the usual evening game shows and news. If it were not for people on social media live tweeting the actual event, you would not necessarily be aware that the so called live event you were watching on the telly, even though it was taking place in the very same city you lived in may have actually long ended.

You watched the video and see it differently.
I won't insult you with mock surprise.
Perhaps you can speculate exactly what the idiot is reacting to, if not in agreement with the audience, as it clearly appears.

The underlying, more problematic question: why ever fake anything?
Good question. Given that it is you that claims they are faking, it is you that needs to give an answer.

Are you perhaps suggesting the space station isn't real? If so, please look for an astronomer in your local area that has a decent telescope, and ask them to help you see the space station for yourself.

But at 225 miles away, you couldn't possibly know what it might be.

You perhaps have heard of this fantastic device, invented in the 1600's called the telescope? Are you saying that the hundreds of telescopic view of ISS are also faked? Some with the moon in the background? Don't know how that would be possible since you say the moon is a self illuminating body. I guess those photos are all faked by amateur astronomers in on the take.

Everyone knows telescopes don't actually work. NASA has equipped every telescope with a small video projector which makes it appear as if you can look into space. But if you try to open a telescope, millions of tiny vaccine injections will spring out and immediately autism you to death.

He doesn't accept video or photographic evidence as it may be faked, hence my suggestion he go and see it with his own eyes.

Luckily it will turn out to be a staged event just intended to scare you.
